LAST EDITED ON Dec-16-15 AT 10:37PM (MST)[p]What state did you kill him in? Looks like a dessert type mulie. Congrats!

Cancer doesn't discriminate...don't take your good health for granted because it can be gone in a heartbeat. Please go back and read the last line. This time really understand what it says.

That's the thing, the fake velvet always turns out perfect. A little too perfect.
If you look at real velvet there's blood veins channeling throughout the beams and up the G2's and it's apparent throughout the details of velvet. The hair is imperfect with long, medium and short hair mixed. I have several velvet bucks mounted of my own and all with real velvet, the details are very distinguishable.
It's a great deer and a buck of a lifetime to most of us, but I think that leaving the velvet off would have been waaaay better than adding in fake velvet (just my opinion) either way that is a great mount.

It is a good thing that you didn't make that decision for me. I shot him in the velvet and wanted him mounted that way.It may not look perfect but no taxidermy job is.

What an awesome buck, lots of character with the curled in front forks, huge eye guards, and kickers to boot ! Congrats on a great buck with a bow.

That's a really cool buck. Congrats. And I like your comment. He's your buck and do as you wish with him.

I'm more curious about the story. Was it a spot and stalk in his bed? Let us know if you feel like it.

Yes. Spot and stalk. I had three target bucks in the summer of 2014. This guy was number 1 on my hit list. I patterned him to 3 different draw systems. About 2 weeks before the season opener he disappeared (I found out later why).

The day came where I was able to sneak away from work and hunt. I was actually looking for my number 2 buck when at first light I fount this buck. I watched him for about an hour before he bedded up in a perfect spot.

The stalk did not last long. I was able to get to a knob right below him. He was bedded down 40 yards away. I drew my bow took one step to clear the brush and sent my arrow down range. At first i thought i missed him because the last time i saw my arrow it looked like i shot over him. He was bedded in the shade so the arrow actually dropped directly into his boiler room. As he left his bed and disappeared over the hill i could see it was a perfect shot. A short recovery and he was in my hands.

When caping him out I figured out why he disappeared for several weeks. I found pellets underneath his skin up by his head. He was shot with a shotgun. Appeared to be lead 4s. When i cut up the meat i found a lot of pellets in the meat of his hindquarter. 15 pellets to be exact. I ended up discarding that quarter because of the lead. He was apparently shot at close range in the rear end and than at a further range in the head and neck region.

Some people make me sick!!!

muleyslayer52 >>> interesting story and the part on shotgun pellets caught my interest. I have a mount on the wall I my home and the taxidermist told me it had shotgun bb's in the front of him all so. I will never understand people why they would do something like that. Great story.
