Yep, nailed it! How the herds and ratios are doing can be debated either way. This is pure marketing and that can't be debated.

I think in the area I hunt I have for sure seen better deer numbers. on the flip side they should not be talking about raising permits and the health of the herd until winter is over. this year we have had more snow than in the last many. so survival rates will be down from previous years, and on top of that SHED season is starting and the people will not wait and that will take a heavy toll in our area.

All you have to do is look at last year hunters success rates.

Many units in Utah enjoying the best success IN A LOT OF YEARS

Look at the hunter satisfaction ratings..

Some general archery units 40+ percent success in 2015,
Many in the 30% range,,,,,,...

This tells the story! IMO

I agree deer numbers are/were up, but that was last year and 2016 could be totally different. Winter can make or break a deer herd, and you absolutely have to take that into consideration. All speculation and smoke and mirrors until winter is over. Success rates from last year don't mean jack for this year, but that's exactly what they want everyone to think. As already stated, it's application time. Same crap every year. Let's just hope winter settles down in a hurry. And allows deer herd populations to stay reasonable.

Purely blowing smoke, at least for the area I have hunted for over 50 years. It just keeps getting worse there every year.

How many of you remember Doug Miller saying that it was going to be a "three thumbs up" year just prior to one of the worst seasons ever. Nothing but smoke.

Regardless of the year, I have always seen more bucks than does where I hunt. I hunt a heavily hunted area too. I have always had my chances at quality bucks on public ground--to the point I can be picky and pass on anything 3 point and smaller. I saw a healthy number of bucks on the winter range this year. I do not see a difference this year compared to ten years ago as far as general numbers go. However, I have noticed a decline in the number of quality bucks 4 point or bigger.
