mule deer state option

I have hunted north central wyoming a couple times with pretty good success. I would see plenty of deer. This past season I made the trip out to Arizona for an OTC tag and hunted around flagstaff. It just wasnt what I was use to. I am use to getting up on high ground and just glassing for hours; looking behind sage, or by big rock piles. We never really found that in Arizona, only a bunch of pines. I am looking to trying another state out this year. I was wondering if anyone had any reccomendations on which states I should look into (or not look). I will be looking to go right at the season opener with my bow. Also, I do not have any points built up any where besides arizona. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

LAST EDITED ON Mar-02-16 AT 03:25PM (MST)[p]My buddy from Wyoming just went with one of our friends that lives in the Phoenix area and they were south of Flagstaff quite a ways on an OTC mulie/coues archery hunt in January. It was all about getting up high to glass and then do a stalk and they had a ball even though they struck out on all their attempts and couldn't get quite close enough for a shot.

I hunted AZ otc in Dec. You were too far north IMO, you need to be south of the pines for that kind of hunt. AZ definitely has it on offer, but think more open terrain - points south of Sedona etc.

What state are from?

For mule deer I think of Nevada, Utah, Colorado. NV will take a couple points for good areas. Utah you can draw many decent General archery areas with 0 points, then hunt the extended if you don't tag out The archery season starts early there (Aug 15th last year) which helps hunting velvet bucks. CO also has many areas you can draw with 0 and a first choice with a potential big buck.

Just so you are informed, New Mexico Takes 0 ZERO points to draw ANYTHING. No points system in NM. Therefore, you have the same odds in drawing a deer tag in your 1st year or 10th. With that being said, I believe it is the fairest draw in the west. (just my opinion) There are some good units and some great units in NM, odds to draw are not the best, but I'm sure it's more of your style of hunting. January 1-15 Bow hunt is really really good in 2C....
