How much growth will a 170+ Buck have by June? If his main beam doesn't forks til his ear tips, is it a good indicator?

Depends on the deer some more developed than others. We hunted a 200" buck that was a late grower he wasn't fully developed when killed in late August. really just depends on the deer.

LAST EDITED ON Jun-08-16 AT 12:04PM (MST)[p]That's a good question with no real right answer. I know in the past some of the bucks I have seen at the end of June seem to just quit growing and than others that stack on the inches until the end of July. So in regards to your question about early June it is really hard to tell, but I believe most the time you can get a pretty good idea on what a bucks potential could be come fall. I put a little video together just recently (Public Trophy Hunter on Google) that has some early June bucks on it that I believe will end up North of 170", but its hard to say. Kinda fun to speculate though, it at least gets your wheels spinning for what is to come.

Good question. I saw one this weekend that was 26-28' wide, and had started splitting into a 4x4 main frame.. Got me thinking about this too. Got me super stoked for August too. :)

I've seen some bucks that are about 170" that are fully grown by July 4th. At least they seem to be. And then I've seen deer during the archery hunt that look "nubby" still, like they aren't done growing yet...

I think it depends more on the deer than anything else. Maybe it's a "personal choice" the deer makes about when to grow his antlers... :)

>is great!

Not necessarily maybe it's wide but u don't know what it will fork out like if it's crabby forked or just a big 2 or if it's a deep forked giant with some trash. I once seen a deer around Memorial Day that looked almost fully grown except he was a giant two or. I kept an eye on him and he didn't grow a ton more he got a bit taller but he was almost fully grown before July. Then I've seen some bucks mid July look very undeveloped to grow into monster bucks that didnt quit growing til sept. Thats why I usually don't start scouting til first weekend in July. Seems like by then u can usually have a fair idea what the deer will end up like. Still hard to tell but you can tell if he is worth keeping an eye on.
