I've been doing a bit of research and have talked to a few guy who have hunted it before. If anyone has any pointers or good places to camp, please feel free to pm me. I won't be scouting but will be there a day early to set up camp and take a look around where I'll be hunting the first morning. It's always nice to know of a good camp prior to getting there. Google-earthed a "good" camp spot for my New Mexico deer hunt last year and when I got there it was major no Bueno. LOL. I appreciate the help. I plan on starting out in the north east part of the unit. Thanks.

Rio Blanco Lake is decent for camping in the area you are referencing.

Thanks tailchasers! Do you think there would be others in there at that same time? I thank you for the info.

Yes there will likely be others but there is ample room with plenty of space for a camper and or tent.

Thanks a ton!

Wisward,
We camped at Rio Blanko Lake while hunting unit 11 many years ago. There were other hunters there, but back then there were plenty of spots it seemed.
I also hunted 22 a few years later, but we chose to get further south in the unit. I can't remember exactly where we camped, but we were just tent camping so there were plenty of spots to hang our hat. Back then there was a sea of orange out there that first weekend. Don't know what it will be like for you.
Best of luck

Will be curious how you do. I was VERY close to applying for this hunt for my wife. Heard some good things. Ultimately, the closing of that public land scared me off. Good luck, and post up some pics of a giant!

I was scouting 22 for the last few days and the rio blanco lake was a fire comand and camp site, the fire was along the white river and there was bomber drops one after another all day fri and they were still at it sat. You could drive semi trucks nearly everywhere in the unit and there is endless camp sites that are good enough for me. One other thing there is something like 6 or 7 guys with the 3rd tag that are associated with the unit 22 deer tracking program for colorado

This is a "managed" fire for habitat improvements. Been burning for a few weeks now.

Dang - how do you get involved in that program? I'm sure those guys will have a very good idea where some bucks will be.
