I drew a December archery tag in Nevada. My first ever cold archery hunt. Wondering how the strategy changes. I am used to hunting in summer, being up as early as possible and bedding them down as soon as the sun comes up.

Will the cold weather keep them up and active for longer periods giving me more time to locate them through the glass? Are they more mobile meaning I should be spending less time behind glass and moving more often? Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

LAST EDITED ON Jul-20-16 AT 04:24PM (MST)[p]I did make the trip to Arizona's January archery mule deer hunt. It was very tough to stalk in the snow. That being said I had my best luck still hunting through the thick cover where the deer were all congregated and trying to walk on any ground that didn't have snow on it. Had a nice buck lined up at 38 yards but the only hunter I seen in the woods all weekend walked up behind me and scared it away. Not sure if this will help you in Nevada. Of course the toughest part of still hunting is the amount of patience it needs to be succesful.

Thanks. The nice thing about the unit I drew is that it generally doesn't have snow in the beginning of December. The deer are moving over from CA and some resident deer. If anything it might be a little wet from rain.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-20-16 AT 05:21PM (MST)[p]If the deer are visible like they are in the summer and the ground is wet from rain it could be perfect. If you can't spot any anywhere it seemed to work good still hunting the thick stuff. The wet ground from rain would be perfect for moving around. Of course that unit could be different than the unit in AZ I hunted.
