I am getting excited for the upcoming hunting season. I was looking at old pictures and decided I would share my 2014 buck. My friend and I packed into the high country to a spot we have been talking about hunting for years. I spotted this buck at 8:30 in the morning. He was 800 yards away. He bedded by 9:00 am. He Was in a perfect spot for me to wait him out. By 10:30 am I was 350 yards from the clump of brush he had laid down in. I was determined to wait him out. I knew he had not moved but I still couldn't see him. I settled in for a LONG wait! Throughout the morning I spotted 4 of the other deer that were with him. But I still could not locate the buck. There were 6 deer in the group total and 4 were visual. Around 2:30 I spotted deer number 5. He was a small 2 point. He was up and feeding. He fed all around the face the deer were on for about 45 minutes. All of the sudden he made a V line to the patch where my buck was. To my amazement he walked right to my buck, he stood, and materialized. 6 of 6 spotted! Game on. ....or so I thought. My buck pushed the 2 point away and promptly rebedded. Never offering a shot. On the bright side I had a eye on him in his tangle of a bed. I continued to wait and wait for him to stand. The day was hot. Almost 80 degrees! I was tired and dehydrated. With about a half hour of light left I got my chance. 330 yards and 9 hours of waiting my buck was down. Patience pays off. This deer was fat! Fatter than any other buck I have killed. My buddy and I caped and quartered him, and hung him in a tree. I wolfed my mountian house down and slept very well! We hunted the next morning and then took 2 80lb packs down the mountian. The next morning we were back in the spot! My buddy put down a beautiful mid 170's buck 1000 yards from where I killed mine 2 days prior. 5 days in the backcountry and several long packs out concluded one of my favorite hunts. I will let my buddy share his buck if he so chooses. My buck is 27" wide with long beams and nice eyeguards
