The last few years I have watched a group set up camp in the high country mid August and take it down the end of October. Is there any sort of an exception to the 14 day stay limit enforced by the forest service?

Guides in colorado pay a fee to do that very thing. They must post signs with their outfit name on em. The only exception to my knowledge.

There can be exceptions for any paid user group on public lands: livestock producers, timber, mining, Special Use Permitees, etc. Find out the BLM Field Office or Forest Service Ranger District and let them know what you see. Maybe they'll let you know if the camp is permitted but I wouldn't count on anything.

This area can be accessed by horseback, backpack and even motorcycle. This camp is clearly used exclusively for hunting deer and elk throughout the season.

Who cares? Is it hurting you? Geez so many petty people out now days wanting to complain about everything.

Since when was asking a question wanting to complain about everything? Maybe I do care maybe I don't. Maybe it screws my hunting up maybe it doesn't. I think what petty people do is read into words much more than they're meant to be.

You'll have to excuse ox. He comes from the mind set that all public land should be grazed to dirt, mined, drilled, sold, developed and roads built to the top of every mountain. And by God you should be able to squat for as long as you like.

No u environmentalist tools drink to much kool aid. Graze to dirt yep. Road on every ridge yep ?????. Shows how ignorant you guys are
Ya Run over the overgrown sagebrush stands cause it sure don't hurt it!

I've told you guys post pics of all this damage and u guys can't because there isn't any!

I just don't see what the big deal is they probably have multiple tags and so they leave their trailer there. What's the big deal? I could see if it was a crowded area and they were not their much but if they are packing tents in and stuff I don't see the point in packing in and out every two weeks.

Pinochle it sure sounded like you were complaining about it.

LAST EDITED ON Aug-25-16 AT 10:34PM (MST)[p]I left a tent on the Stansbury Oquirr unit for a day and a half opening weekend, and someone stole my tent and nice backpacking sleeping bag!! I know its probably my fault for leaving it, but I thought it would be fine for a short time! I hiked back up the mountain at 9 pm Sunday night up to 10,000 ft to find out I didn't have a tent or a sleeping bag to sleep in!!!! O well, I guess if I ever leave something for more than a day and plan to come back i'll have to hide it! Sucks you can't trust anyone!

It's a 14 day limit in utah but you can't leave it unattended for more than 48 hours I believe. To me it does suck seeing a rig in the same spot from August thru October and that's the guys I hope get vandalized. It's getting worse every year to find a spot to camp for the hunt even if you show up a couple of days early. I've talked to the forest service till I was blue in the face and they won't do a thing about it. Don't know what the solution is but its out of control.

Sort of like archery antelope hunting now a days. Every waterhole you find has 1 or 2 blinds placed on them well before season, but during season you rarely see anyone hunting. People seem to just claim areas.

I read this shizz and realize how deeply the loss of freedom has gone. My question would be WHO THE HELL'S BUSINESS IS IT? Do we really need the nanny state to monitor whether something has been used for 48 hours? Is it "hurting" the environment for one camp to be there longer than 14 days? If they pulled out tommorow, you would pull in right after them, so its not like the spot is returning to wild grasslands. You get the opportunity to go on the mtn., and do some hunting, something that is being chipped at daily by the antis, and in the forest service itself, and you want to take the time to involve the forest service MORE?
Heres an idea. Get there first. Beat them to the spot. Don't roll in, Friday night before the opener at 10pm and expect the spot you want to be reserved. Its not the KOA.
But more important, quit whinning for the government to come fix you problem. If these guys do this "every year", then you know now, 365 days ahead of time, so you have plenty of time to figure how to get there first, or find somewhere else, or perhaps, mind your own buisness. What we don't need, EVER, is more government nannies running around making everything fair and equal.

Thats my rant for today, and everyday. The issue isn't the guy camping there, the issue is that the nanny state decided they can dictate 14 days. Why not 12, or 16? Who asked them in the first place? The job of the FS or BLM is to protect the land, not dictate to the LANDOWNER.

I agree. I'm so tired of govt regulation. It's funny these guys cry about this stuff and want more regulations on atv use camping use etc yet don't regulate my guns etc. it's the same damm thing. These guys that want wilderness and etc don't realize they are doing the same thing the anti gun people are doing to hunters they are doing to atv people, elderly people, disabled people, and people that don't ha e time to hike 10 miles in for a week. These people are selfish sobs that just want to hunt public land without other people on it. It drives me crazy how two faced they are about these things. I just want less govt regulation yet I'm accused of wanting a trail on every ridge and etc etc etc. these guys are just opening the door to regulations. Most wilderness areas I've been to are not healthy they are generally overgrown brush and trees and etc and usually have overpopulations of predator problems. But hey at least a couple of guys get To hunt it with less People on it. Go buy your own land and quit trying to take it from other groups! A road up a ridge isn't destroying anything it's just an excuse to be an environmentalist bully

Does that mean it's claimed? Cause I'm sure u can set a blind there also. You can't just set it up when u get there in the morning the animal has to get used to it.

There are exceptions like a guy that hunts some same area as
Me. He puts blinds up and leaves a note saying the archery hunt dates and leaves a note saying hunter in blind at the entrance areas and he seldom is in there. That guy thinks he owns all the waters. That I understand about being mad about.

Jesus Christ ox, do you honestly believe the garbage that you write?

So why is a wilderness area that has brush and trees not healthy? Is it because your filthy F'N cows don't eat brush and trees??

"I'm accused of wanting a trail on every ridge"

Did you read what you just wrote? That's exactly what it sounds like to me when you're whining about the elderly, the disabled and not having time to hike in 10 miles.

I told you before and I'll tell you again. Life's a beotch, then you die. none of us are going to be able to hunt the places we did when we're elderly. So get over it and stop whining about it.

I think a tent left in the wilderness is no big deal, plenty of room to find another spot. What pisses me off to no end is to show up 5-6 days before the hunt opens and have to drag a trailer house around for half a day looking for a place to set up because every spot has an abandoned trailer sitting in it that some 435 local drug up and left to save his spot for 2 weeks on his mountain. One trailer dropped right dead center of the largest camping spot around. Then the jack wagons don't even show up until the weekend and camp all alone in their one trailer then hook up and leave Sunday night. It gets worse every year. Maybe this is the year we just move in around them and become neighbors though. Or just drag them out of the way. That's my rant.

I don't like the regulations in Utah either, but I have been around when we pitched a tent in Fruita (capital Reef) and could shoot guns where the visitors center now is. There were about a million people in the state, no freeways. Now there is over two million and climbing so we need those regulations. Sportsmen are now only hunters and a lot are not very honest. camps, blinds, and tents go up everywhere. On Monroe Mountain, on a beautiful dead end road, sits a tent that has been there three years. The grass is now mud and full of beer cans.

You say no regulations in the back country. Really!! Being a country boy, I wish gas would go to $6.00 a gal, if you get my meaning.

No regulations? Hell im going to sell my house, buy the biggest 5th wheel ever made, find a nice piece of public land and squat I mean live there the rest of my life. After all, who's business is it anyway? Right Hossblur?

LAST EDITED ON Aug-30-16 AT 03:20PM (MST)[p]Cannonball, $6 gas would be the best thing that could ever happen to Monroe Mountain. And I also like the idea of $25/ 12 pack beer price. I've picked up empties a mile from roads and packed them out. It's a damn shame the trash on that mountain. And when I say trash, I don't mean just beer cans and garbage left behind, if you get my meaning.

Boy, do I get your meaning. A friend of mine was set up by Todds' Junction. He had set his blind by a deer trail days before. They set in the blind each day. One day they noticed a ladder by their set up with a 25 to 30 year old women. They went over and talked to her and told her they would leave, so they wouldn't foul her up and pick up the blind the next day after she left. When they went back her and her husband had stole two GCI folding directors chairs and the blind. Trash, trash, trash!!

I'm with you shadow start towing ##### away. And obviously hoss can't read I've never showed up on a Friday night before the hunt, sounds like he has though. As I stated it sucks when guy's leave their ##### on the mountain from August till the end of October and it happens every year and gets worse every year. But hey your right hoss I will quit wining and take care of it myself.
