Hello guys. My baby girl was lucky enough to draw the youth rifle tag for unit 27. Opens Oct 7th. Due to work and school we haven't been able to get down the to scout. Any help would be very helpful.

1. Do you recommend drag the camper down or are there hotels near by?

2, is there much ATV access? Ideally a few trails to get us up high then walking.

3, What weather and Temps during the 2nd week of October? I have clothing for everything but my 11 year old grows out of things so fast that I only buy what's needed.

4, Have you or anyone you know been in the area this year and if so how hard is it to find a mature muley or Coues?

I was down there in January and will be down in that unit again this January. Of course the hunting will be a whole lot different then compared to when you go. If it is easy enough to do, I would recommend bringing the camper if you don't want to sleep in a tent. There aren't hotels close by that I can recall. 191 from Alpine to Morenci is pretty desolate as far as hotels or anything goes. There were camping spots and campers along the whole highway (some of them elk hunter up higher I believe). We were hunting down in the lower elevation by the San Juan campground because a big snowstorm pushed all the deer down there. Of course I have no insight to where the deer will be during October.

We hunted the archery elk hunt last year during the latter part of September and if I recall correctly, there really wasn't any motel options nearby. We camped off the 191 about 2/3's of the way down to Hannagan. There's camping spots all over down there just off the main road so a camper would work just fine.

We saw a few deer while elk hunting up in that country but not a ton. I'd be happy to share specifics on where the deer we did see were if you're interested. PM me if so.
