The Big Ones of the Year for Me

So which of these bucks would you want to take? None? All?

Pretty fun year of scouting for me. Did some scouting for clients and myself and found them all pretty good bucks to hunt. Mostly these bucks here ranging from upper 170's to mid-190's. These bucks I would say fall into that top 2%. I had hoped and expected to find a 200-incher for me to hunt, but I didn't. I tried real hard though!! Put a LOT of miles on my boots.
25 days in WY, 3 in CO. 590+ bucks looked at in WY and probably 35 looked at in CO.
Man, 200-inchers are sure rare!!!!!!!!

Anyway, just a little big buck eye candy to get you all excited to hit the hills in the next couple months.

Buck 9 - I was thinking upper 170's. His width kills score, but he has long tines.

I would hunt bucks #1 and #2. They are both bomber bucks. Which buck will you be chasing on the opener?

1,2,4 & 12 are very interesting to myself. All great bucks there with several with extras there in your photos. Awesome work there Brian.

Awesome bunch of bucks. #4 would probably be my pick of the litter with 1 or 3 close behind. Although, in my opinion, I don't think you're giving #8 enough credit. Looks like he has 17 or so inches of extras on top of a decent frame. He could definitely use more length on his back end but I would bet he's easily mid 180's and I wouldn't be able to pass him up as a non resident.

That's a serious line up! Hard to make a pick from all of those. But ide take #2 or #12, whichever walks out in front of me first. I hope #8 can live until next year, and see what he can really do, some cool genetics on that buck. Thanks for posting.

#8. Mass and character for me. He looks like he may be the oldest one in the series. Great bucks. Hope we see "grip and grin" pics of some of them soon.

I'd like to run into any of these bucks on my hunt this year in the Book Cliffs... Buck #4 would be my favorite I think. Then #3. I also like a lot of the unique, "cheater" bucks... I think I found Buck #9's twin brother earlier this month... :)

I'd bet money a few of those finished out over 200". All the bucks I had been watching in Wyoming this year had significant growth the last 10-15 days or so, including the one I killed.

#4 is my top pick as well and I think will score the best of the group.

You will need to let us all know how many of these get harvested. I know one of them that can get scratched from the list:)

Here are three of them that I know were harvested. Two of them by guys I was working (scouting) for (top two pics). So that's really cool. Very happy that they got it done. The other one by a guy I don't know. I just saw a pic today. I didn't put a client on that buck. Congratulations to all three hunters on getting it done. These are very top end caliber bucks for the area. And for the two guys I was working for, their best bucks ever.

I missed guessing the size of the 2nd buck. I saw him at very first light at a long distance. You can see by the pics that there's not much to work with. I felt that he was "for sure" in the 180's, but knew there was a chance, given that he had the inline, that he could be better. Never went to get another look at him. Showed the photos here to a client and he was impressed. He shot the buck on opening morning and it's better than expected. That's always good.

I'd sure like to know if any of the others pictured above were harvested.

Top buck is 194-1/2 and 29-1/2 wide.
2nd is 193-1/2 and 29-1/2 wide.
Bottom buck I was told was mid-190's.

Congrats to the hunters.

What I think would be really cool is to know how old these bucks were to see if they were at their peak or before their peak and if they might have made it to 200 or not?

Got word (and photos) that the tall narrow buck pictured below did get harvested. I had originally guessed mid-180's on this buck, but then brought my guess down to upper 170's based on the buck being very narrow and not real heavy. Well, I guess I was wrong. The successful hunter measured the buck out at 193 gross.....much better than I would have put him even on the high side. Very nice buck for sure.

Per my scouting service, I did send a hunter into the area, but not after a particular buck, but just as part of my "Get You Started" package. He didn't make it in until late-Sept., but he did kill one of the 3 bigger bucks I had found in there. By the time he got in there, this buck pictured below (in top picture) was already taken. The bottom photo is the buck that client took. It's not a giant, but probably a top 5% type buck for the area. He took it in almost the exact spot where I saw him in the summer. Pretty cool.
