Looking to try and draw unit 68 3rd season with 5 point. Non res. With a week to scout prior to season what class of Buck should I expect to see all public DIY

Boy, your not getting much help here. Don't know if you posted in the Colorado forum yet. But I would try that also. Sorry I can't help, never been hunting in Colorado. Seasons are mostly over and it gets a little slow around here.

Hi

I don't have specific hunting experience in 68, but fwiw, I bet you could expect to see anything from smaller 150 class bucks, and probably a few big 200+ bucks in the area. I think the same could be said for many units. I think it took 6 points to guarantee that tag last year. Not sure what kind of point creep, if any will play into results this year, but 5 points may be a little light for that tag. Good luck and hope you get the tag and a good buck.

Warm regards

Know people that have hunted it hard on tags the last few years. Deer are scarce. They're much better units for 5 points.

68 took a 2 point jump last year. In the three prior years, 4 points was enough to guarantee a tag. In 2013 5% with 3 points drew; in 2014 38% with 3 points drew; and in 2015 60% with 3 points drew. So it was actually getting slightly easier to draw until last year when the later season dates impacted the draws.

It is anyone's guess to see if the odds for tags will drop back to "normal" after last year's creep.

I had hoped to get that tag for my 16 year old son last year with his 4 points. Hoping he can draw it this year with 5 points.

What unit do you suggest for 5 points? I'm in a similar situation.

Hey CO 68, if you are looking for a hunting buddy, let me know. I am a NR with 4 points.
