Got this buck last year, haven't scored him, just wondering what some of you think he might score.
I was by myself when I got him so didn't get any good field photos.

Now I'm a little embarrassed. I love the guess the score pics. Now that the third pic is up and gives a little something more to go on. Back down to 170 ish, nice buck. I guess it's a good thing I don't go by buck"scorer"7

Sorry bout that, took me awhile to get em all up.
Thanks for your input.

Can't seem to get the last photo to load.

LAST EDITED ON Jun-11-17 AT 09:52PM (MST)[p]I would think because of smallish inside spread and shorter than normal main beams, the buck would go 180 at best. Maybe closer to 175".

Get ready for change because it's going to happen!

I agree that the main beams are on the shorter side but believe this buck is a solid 175" buck. Those g4's are impressive.

I always thinking they are bigger. I'll concede that right up front. I'll estimate him at 182" gross, maybe more. I love those 4 long tines, his mass is deceiving, I think his mass might cost him more than his main beams, very nice eye guards. Short main beams, but not abnormally short. Average inside width.

I would never pass on that buck unless I knew for sure there were larger bucks in the area.

LAST EDITED ON Jun-11-17 AT 09:09PM (MST)[p]Let me add just another comment.

runamuk, thanks for posting up those pictures. I think your buck is nearly a perfect buck, in my eyes. (we all have our on version of perfect antler confirmation)

That buck is just about perfectly symmetrical, as far as my standards are concerned, Height, in near perfect balance with his width. Hisg4 beams are almost exactly twice as long as his tines, which give his tines/beams near perfect balance, especially his g3 and g4s. If his left main beam was 2 or 3 inches longer, both of his front tines would be in perfect balance with his main beams too. The right side symmetry is stunning.

His mass is not huge but it is consistent, from it's base all the way to the top of the g4s, in that it tapers perfectly. It doesn't start out large and loose it at the top or have a lump of antler at the fork of the tines and the main beams, it just all flows together symmetrically.

If you compare this buck to the Boone and Crocket skull and antler configuration, which I suspect represents what B & C believe is the confirmation of an "ideal" typical, look how close this buck looks.

Personally, I think extra points, on a typical, are distractions. This buck is near smooth as bone, after the first 5 inches of his main beams.

Add 2 inches of curl, to his main beams and this may be a perfect typical mule deer buck.

I don't think you can do any better than that runamuk. The more I look at those images, the more I appreciate him. Thanks again.

79" right 78" left 22" spread credit. 179 gross.

I'd say mid 180's. I've got one that looks just like him but is a shade smaller and he's 180. And I've got another that looks real similar except for a couple of cheaters and he's 190+. So I'm sticking with the mid 180's.

Great buck. I'm curious where you got him. Just which state/province, nothing specific.

Thanks for sharing.

I'm going with low 180's, would like to see him with a touch more mass and width with corresponding main beam length and he would be "perfect", love those big typicals.

LAST EDITED ON Jun-12-17 AT 10:37AM (MST)[p]If it wasn't for the dink mains, I'd of said 180's, but you're probably looking at 174 gross. Mains are key, but still a sweet buck. Score means squat!

I'd guess him to be in the high 160's or low 170's

If I had to give a number...Id say 168 3/8

Now have him measured and get back to us and let us know.
I love guessing scores

Thanks everybody.
I've had several people tell me that's a 190 buck all day long, but I've thought all along that he was around 180/85 guess I'll have to get him scored some day.

Lumpy, That right there is the buck I've been in search of my entire hunting life, The more I look at him the more I appreciate him also.
thank you for your comments.

ICM, it's an Idaho buck,
Also it was a draw hunt.
I hadn't drawn any kind of tag here in Idaho for more than 30 years, then bingo
I drew this tag twice in three years.
I got a pretty nice buck outa there two years ago
It also was a perfect 4x4
Very similar to this one
But probably a 160 class buck.
I passed up a super wide
And heavy buck on opening day, then couldn't
Find another buck I wanted until the 3rd to the last day of the hunt, that's when I found this one and ended up taking him on the last day.
Thanks again everybody.

Come on Runamuk forget that some day we need answers. L0L
How about measure his G2 and his main beams that could help us out.
No offense but I don't see anyway he's 190 unless those pictures are very deceaveing.

Ok I pulled up a B&C score sheet
For instructions so I think I got these numbers right.

G-2 left- 17"4/8. Right 17"
Mains- both at 22"
G-4 both 12"
Greatest inside spread 22"4/8
Base's 5"4/8

Not sure if it's all right, but pretty sure it's all wit in a half inch.

That is a really nice looking buck. I would guess 181" gross. That would be a very hard buck to pass on with any tag.

Great buck, with better mass than he looks. I want one!

Heading to a secluded little known spot in AK. Called the Russian river.

To fish there and make a few thousand

With those measurements I'd guess 179-180 a Great looking Buck.

It's not impossible but very hard for a clean 4 point to break 190" with only 22" main beams in my opinion.

Thanks oilcan,
And everybody else, I really do appreciate all the nice comments and thoughts on scores.

Hope everyone has a good year.

Well...... I do my best to avoid goin' to them hook removal clinics, I hate being one of them TARDS!!
but if I make it to Soldotna I'll stop in and get some pics.

Runamuk, you're toying with us! You have the B&C sheet, and you took half the measurements, just take the rest of 'em and add them up??

Whatever the score, a very nice and symmetrical buck. Congrats.
