Central mountains Nebo muzzy
I have a muzzy tag for the Nebo unit and was wondering if if any would be willing to share information. I have hunted the Fountain Green area in the past but didn't have great success, that was some years ago. Any information you would share would be greatly appreciated. Got the tag because I am moving from the city to Fountain Green, it's just taking longer than anticipated. Thanks to all for sharing your adventures.

I Don't know alot about Nebo other than it's Damn Steep!:D

But there will be many Men there!:D

Back Me Off to 1,700 Yards,650 is a Little Close & I'm Not Comfortable with it!

A GUT SHOT at 1,700 Yards will Still Make Some Good BRAGGIN Rights so I Can Say I At Least Hit Him!

You might look at hunting below the red cliffs in Salt Creek Canyon. Directly across the canyon to the north there was a burn years ago that can hold some deer that time of the year as well.

LAST EDITED ON Sep-18-17 AT 01:29PM (MST)[p]I have seen some great bucks on the nebo and in different types of terrain. Get on a great vantage point and glass like crazy. Have fun on the men's deer hunt.

I have a disability and it makes it difficult to hike. I scouted some last night and saw a handful of deer. Also saw a large herd of elk with several great bulls. They were making a lot of noise and chasing cows. Did not see a single deer this morning, just a young coyote running in the road in front of me. I am amazed at the decline of the deer herd here. A few years back you could beat with a stick they were so plentiful. Just looking to fill the freezer as always. As my late father always said "you can't eat them horns boy".

Shoot me a PM. Ive got a pretty good idea where you can road hunt a buck without too much effort, if you are interested.

Thanks for all the responses on the men's deer hunt. I saw 8 does today. Deer are scarce around the Fountain Green area. I have tomorrow morning then maybe come back the first of the week.

Rough hunt thus far. Several years back I would never have had a problem shooting a buck. Now I can't even dream one up. Did CWD wipe out this once thriving herd or are they migrating early? On the up side, I don't have to clean the muzzle loader. Will be back at it in a couple of days.

No it wasn't the CWD, it was the DWR that killed them. Lots of depredation doe tags last fall/winter on the unit, combined with ##### loads of buck tags and then a bad winter on top of all that.

There isn't really any issue with CWD on any of the units in Utah as far as I'm aware

I had a Vernon tag last year and ran into a rancher that has been running cattle out there for years. He said that the CWD was so bad on the Vernon that the carcasses were lying everywhere. He said the ranchers contacted the DWR and wanted to help any way they could but the DWR did nothing. The deer numbers on that unit are no where near what they were years ago.
I have in-laws in Fountain Green and when visiting I did notice several deer that were sick. Also talked with a few hunters a few years back that turned their deer kill in and received another tag because they were sick. I didn't think it was real bad, just noticed that it was a problem.
I had no idea that they gave out so many tags.
My son had an archery tag and hunted near Strawberry reservoir this year. He saw about 4 deer. Was the winter worse than I thought?

Did you get one last year?

I shot one but never found it. It was a tough hunt and I only had one buck in the cross hairs. The deer were scarce for a limited entry unit.

Well, I finally got it done. At the last minute. I know this is monster Muley's but being disabled I'll take any buck muley most days. A two point for me! Can't wait to cook up some tender loins and as my brother says "flap a lip over it". Thank you to all that gave information and helpful tips, you guys are awesome. Gives me faith that hunters can unite and lend a helping hand to one another especially to those of us that could use a little more help. Didn't get a good photo as it was late by the time I got him dressed out. A special thanks also to my beautiful wife who helped me field dress and drag to the truck.
