Region K or 101 Wyoming

Just wondering how guys are doing in Southwest Wyoming this year. I heard the winter kill was bad, and didn't put in. Anybody hunting there chime in and let me know how you did or what you see. Any young deer? Any big ones whatever? Just sad not to be hunting this year, and wondering how K is doing, or 101 I have max points and probably should have gone, but between the bad winter and kids all busy it's just a bad year. Good luck to all this fall, and congrats to those done already.

Dillon nailed it. Region K has way too many roads and is all general areas which means unlimited resident hunting. 101 has very few tags, but also has few deer( although they appear to be making a comeback from the previous several years). Don't waste your points on K...

I live in region K and tend to avoid hunting it. I do bowhunt it because the low pressure but rifle is just too much. I drive the short distance to the south end of Region G. 101 would have been awesome this year with the weather we are having. But without that weather it can be a very tough hunt. Just got to get lucky. There were a ton of does and fawns out all bow season. Most does were double fawned it seemed. I found one bruiser that was huge frame, just tiny front forks but couldn't ever relocate him well enough to stalk. Then I almost got a shot at a 145" deer that was a dandy for me with a bow and still a shooter in my book with a gun, but he was only 4.5 years I figured. Other than that plenty of 2 points and 3 points seen but lack of mature bucks(as always in this region). Saw two 3.5 year old deer that had awesome potential but unlikely they made it through the hunt. It really seemed like a very typical year in this area, except there is a complete absence of yearlings. Didn't see even 1 this year in G or K. Probably put in 15 days or so. 3-4 years from now this area will be hurting bad.

Region K is an absolute zoo on the rifle hunt, found a great buck only to have some slob lob shots at him, probably a decent unit to use 1 point on, but no more than that

Thanks for the replies. I need to mention that I have been holding out for 102 with max points. I usually take my kids to region K with a point so they can have a decent hunt. We have done ok in K in the past. Lots of opportunities for kids on ok bucks just never anything big. I was just wondering if the winter was as bad as they said last winter. Will this be something I can put my kids in for again next year? Or will it be a while?

We found plenty of legal( 3-pt or better) bucks in K this year. I have a feeling most survived the hunt based on how many hunters I saw actually out of the truck. Found one buck I wanted to kill but missed my chance...

Winterkill wasn't as bad south of I-80 as it was north. I think K would probably be fine for a hunt for the kids next season( barring another harsh winter, of course).

102 still sucks if you're looking for a BIG deer. Although the buck population is good, genetics are NOT. Lots of 2x4 and 3x4 genes there. Of course there are a few big bucks here and there, but they are few and far between in 102...Nothing like it once was.

LAST EDITED ON Aug-10-18 AT 05:28PM (MST)[p]I drew a Region K tag this year. This is my first time ever hunting wyoming. Any pointers on where to start? hoping to go scout the area in a couple of weeks. Thank you!

Prepair for a zoo and make sure your not on private if you like your truck and toys!
