LAST EDITED ON Oct-23-17 AT 01:08PM (MST)[p]I drew an Idaho unit 67 deer tag. It Goes until November 30th. I have never been a trophy hunter but I would like to kill a pretty decent mule deer on this hunt. Anyone have any ideas on what size class of deer I should be seeing on this hunt? I was hoping for a 180ish buck. Any pictures of 180 deer would be helpful!

Google up "180 inch Mule deer". There are pictures, forums, several good threads and other info available that way. Try 160 and 190 too. That'll give you an idea of the difference. One word, if you have never seen a 180 in your scope you don't know how truly big one of those is. GOOD LUCK !

Go when the hunting is good, not when you can hunt..if that makes sense.
You will get snow, just wait for it, and then HUNT HUNT HUNT.
There are toads in there, but you are going to have to hunt for them.

I have had the tag 2 times in 30 years, and loved it each time.

Good luck.

Thanks for the advice guys! Im pretty excited about this hunt. Ill be pretty picky for the most part. We will see how long that lasts!

Hopefully the picture shows up! I feel like I did alright! haha he was a little over 170 gross.

We had glassed up around 20 does in this particular canyon and we knew there had to be a buck around. Hiked our butts off to this knoll about half way up the canyon where we spotted my buck. We only saw him for a split second and lost him over the next ridge. About an hour later we caught up to him pushing about 5 does over this saddle. Had him broadside at 150 yards. The rest is history. He had no Idea we were there!
My dad and I don't get to hunt a lot together so him being there was honestly the real trophy. It was also a great goodbye gift from Idaho because I am also moving to Denver here in a couple weeks! If anyone lives around there lets get together, drink some beer, and talk hunting! haha

Thanks for all the compliments guys! I am so excited to get a deer like him. I am usually not a trophy hunter so holding out and getting a decent deer was a great experience!

Nice buck! Neat to be able to share that experience with your dad. Looks like pretty country, and great weather!!
