So those of you that have been cutting tags this year, what condition have the deer been in? My daughter shot a 21" 4 point on the muzzleloader hunt in Utah and it is by far the fattest buck I've ever seen. I shot a forkey a few days later on the same unit and he also had huge amounts of fat on him. A buddy of mine a couple units over said his buck was the fattest he has ever shot as well. They've been great eating bucks. So I'm wondering if this seems to be the overall condition this year or ?

Just field dressed one tonite from NW Colorado with balls of fat in the inners and 2" on the tail bone. Very healthy fully rutting buck. Stinky SOB...

My daughters buck was the same way. It seemed close to a couple inches on the rump and just handfuls of intestine fat. We watched it for over an hour on the hoof and bedded down. It looked like one of those steroided guys, big body and tiny beetlejuice head.

I just finished helping my son hunting in NV Area 231. He tagged out on a nice 3pt. Deer was in excellent shape, lots of body and back fat. Hundreds of does looked at; all appeared large and healthy- looking. In all my yrs. of hunting (40+), I can never remember seeing so many forked horns while hunting...they seemed to be very plentiful.

A buck my Son shot in SE Idaho had lot's of fat, and was in great shape. The deer was in great shape. The deer herd is in poor shape. Eleven tags in our group in the Cache unit. Zero filled. Some didn't even see a deer. Two saw a small buck.

It will be years before the deer herd recovers in SE Idaho, western WY, and Northern Ut. Sad deal.

I hate it when the deer herd isn't doing well. It seems like we spend half our lives waiting for game populations to recover from one thing or another.

I just got a 3x3 in area y of Wyoming biggest bodied muley I've got he had all kinds of fat on him most that I've seen looked very healthy

A fair amount of marbling in the meat too. Other than the prime cuts he's gonna be turned into sausage as he is pretty strong.

Hey tail?

What's the Head Gear look like?

Back Me Off to 1,700 Yards,650 is a Little Close & I'm Not Comfortable with it!

A GUT SHOT at 1,700 Yards will Still Make Some Good BRAGGIN Rights so I Can Say I At Least Hit Him!

Nice!

Can't believe they're Ruttin over your way!

Haven't seen anything but Small Bucks with their Mothers here!

Course in TARDville the MOTL Bucks might be the Breeders for the most part!

Colorado Deer still have some Body Weight to them!

Unlike the TARDville Herd!

Shot a good buck in central Idaho the last weekend before it closed and he had lots of fat on him. In the guts and along his back. Saw a lot of deer as well. Lots of young bucks and does. Everybody seems to be hitting the panic button, but I think as long as we don't have a couple hard winters in a row the deer herd is going to bounce back. At least for my neck of the woods that seems to be the case.
