Back Me Off to 1,700 Yards,650 is a Little Close & I'm Not Comfortable with it!

A GUT SHOT at 1,700 Yards will Still Make Some Good BRAGGIN Rights so I Can Say I At Least Hit Him!

I'm glad the person that got him did, much better than some of the people that were trying to kill it. Glad it was done legally as well.

Nice to hear the rest of the story! The year I had an archery tag was the second year of sightings of the buck. He would just vanish right before the bowhunt. Look forward to possibly reading a story on him in one of the mags. Congrats to the hunter.

From what I heard it was older lady in a wheelchair that killed him right off the road.I hope this is the truth that would be so cool.Because I heard there was a guy that had Utah tag and a Colorado tag and was paying a guy $250 a day to find him

LAST EDITED ON Nov-01-17 AT 05:53PM (MST)[p]The Story on the Salt Shack Buck

Jennifer and I her husband (Chris) Took this buck opening morning on the bookcliffs this year of the rifle deer hunt. She shot the deer a little after 9 am in the morning. There have been rumors about who took the buck and how it was taken. The deer will be in the sportsman's expo if you would like to take a look. We feel very humbled to have had the opportunity to harvest such an amazing animal. We never expected to get a deer like this. we actually expected to shoot a solid 4 point. We knew this deer was on the mountain but had no Idea that he was as famous as he was. His unofficial green score is 227 7/8

So my wife took the deer and I am her husband and am in a wheelchair. I have heard several renditions of who killed the deer. Below is a pic of me with the deer

Congrats to you! I was with the family of kids you stopped and showed the deer to. That was so gracious of you and we all appreciated it very much! Thank you for the opportunity to look at such an amazing deer. We heard several stories about the kill also. But have been correcting them as I hear it. I couldn't be happier that someone that is so nice and humble and gracious got that deer. Way to go and congrats again! And again, thanks for sharing your story with my family and showing the buck to us. Made our hunt that much better too.

I had an archery tag in the area in 2016. I'm glad to see that the buck was taken by a someone that will enjoy it as a trophy that was taken legally, ethically and without a lot of "help". Congrats, it was nice to know that I had my chance at it- although I never did lay eyes on it.

man oh man that is a beauty of a buck, congrats on killing a buck of a lifetime. I never was lucky enough to see him in person but had seen pictures and video of the buck in velvet this summer and on the winter range last year.

I always wondered what his outside spread was on that giant forked cheater all the way across to the other cheater on the opposite side. people asked me and I would tell them I think right at 34 inches but it would be awesome to check my field judging skills. HAHA!

Thanks for sharing the pictures and the story with us.
simply awesome

Had a buddy within 40 yards of him 3 times during the opener of the archery hunt, just never could get a shot at him in the thick oak brush. I got some decent video and one cool picture of my buddy and the buck in the same frame as he was 40 yards away and didn't know the buck was there.

Here is the photo.
