Seeing double on a buck

Anybody ever have something like this happen. I spotted a lone buck about 100 yds. away and decided to take him. He was on a fairly open hillside with a few scattered trees. For one thing, I was looking into the sun. At my shot I watched him go down at the base of a tree. I chambered another cartridge and looked again. He was standing back up in the same spot, stiff as a statue. I thought,"Where's the blood?" I knew it was a solid hit. I thought my eyes were playing tricks, so I aimed again. Luckily, I decided to glass. The one standing was in the exact spot my buck had been, with my buck at his feet. I'd only seen one buck, and looking at the second buck, he could have been a double for the first one! I watched him nose the dead buck like "Hey buddy, what's the matter? Man, you're DEAD!" With that he bolted off a few yards, then came back to check again. I'm sure glad I didn't rush the second shot. Could have had unwanted results for me.

I saw my dad shoot a buck once that dropped immediately, then an identical buck stepped out from behind a tree tried to get the dead one to stand up.

Twinners.

well i got a story sort of like i was with my father when i was young a buck walked out we both saw it so dad took the shot.after that the deer was down we walked over it was a doe made dad sick so he put 1 in the head to get out of misery. my cousin saw the whole thing said before dad shot buck walked away and doe stayed and that the story this happened about 50 years ago here in cali. them days dad shot at a lot never killed many but we had fun.

I watched my hunting buddy do it once. Before I could say "stop" he dumped the second buck.

I was muzzleloader hunting and walked ip on a bedded 4 point in the pines at 20 yards. We had a stand off for several minutes before the buck decided it had had enough and jumped up to run. I shouldered the gun and shot. When the smoke cleared, there was an identical 4 point standing in the same spot. For a second I could not believe what I was seeing. Then I heard my buck crash in the direction the buck was looking. Good thing I was shooting a weapon that I had to reload. Otherwise that buck would have got it as well.

Come on Pete!

Show Both of them to us!:D

Back Me Off to 1,700 Yards,650 is a Little Close & I'm Not Comfortable with it!

A GUT SHOT at 1,700 Yards will Still Make Some Good BRAGGIN Rights so I Can Say I At Least Hit Him!

I had a similar experience on a archery hunt last year, I snuck it into 47 yards of a buck bedded in group of small pines. Shot him in his bed and he bolted to the left out of sight and as I pulled another arrow out of my quiver and nocked it I looked back up and standing in the bed I just shot the buck out of was a big typical 4 staring down in the direction my buck went. I had to wait 2-3 minutes froze staring at him (felt like forever) until he decided to get out of dodge. He was bigger than the buck I killed...unfortunately that's how it goes!

It takes a veteran with experience to stop and look the situation over before overreacting and taking another shot. Kudos for you Pete. Always love your posts and good job filling your tag. Fatrooster
