10 second season with 20 points? Don?t look at any second season hunts if you have 20 points... just my opinion.

Hello, My partner an I can hunt about any season , I,, been reading all I can and just grtting more confused, having waited so long for points can a headack some times AT 72 not many years left to have a CHANCE at a nice buck. Seems 3rd season would be good if hut is on Here in WI it,s starts November first Best time for bow, love it.
With only like 15 or so tages sold, is there a CHANCE a privet ranch would let a hunter in for a fair price?

Best time to scout mid summer? What about a dry summer?
ect ect hate to just blow a chance.
Thanks again guys

Many great options available. Can scout at all or only head out to hunt?

LAST EDITED ON Jan-04-18 AT 03:58AM (MST)[p]John, with that many points you are going to get a great buck. I have heard fantastic things about areas but none I can personally vouch for since I too have points...11 to be exact. I drew a tag last year with 0 points in unit 36. It was good...but not at all what you are looking for. You need something amazing. Like the guys said above...do not go for any second season hunts. Usually, I wouldn't give out units over a public forum but if a unit takes 20 points to draw it is obviously really well known. So, here are literally, the most popular hunts in Colorado that I personally know very little about :)

22 4th season, only 5 tags given to non-residents in 2017, supposed to be a great hunt but weather dependent and quality has been going down. Again, just going off what I have read and heard.

53 4th season, gonna need to be able to get out and hike a mile or two.

44 3rd season, can be good with weather, personally I would not risk it.

44 4th season, you are gonna need more points and with point creep, this hunt is off the table for ya.

54 4th season, if I was a betting man this would be one of my top 3. The area is known for big bucks but it did just have a winter die off a few years ago. However, check success rates an it looks like 2016 was still 80% on the site I was looking at but they only had 3 tags so those figures need to be checked. I think the site was also accounting for resident success as well.

66 4th season, this is a weather dependant hunt as well with close to 100% success.

67 4th season, this should be a top pic as well. 100% success. but only 3 tags...with 20 points this one is yours.

35, 4th season, I do have experience here. You will get a buck if you get out of the truck. However, the best bucks end up on private ground. The herd here is not stellar and the best bucks wait for weather. I would not put in for this hunt with 20 points. I personally wouldnt put in if I had 15 points. Success rate was lower, around 70% I believe.

There are others, 11, 2, 201, 361, and more, and all 4th season. However, the units above will get ya a buck. Make sure to look at the success rates and understand if it is a migration hunt. I have hunted migrations and it can be really tough. Technically all bucks are migrating in 4th season but if you pick a unit that is waiting for bucks to enter the unit that can be tough. For the weather to be less of a factor pick a unit that has great summer and winter range. If the snow never comes you can hunt on the mid range terrain where the deer will be.

No one on here wants to give you a gps coordinate of the buck. You, being a hunter, dont want that either, so take the above info and have fun with it. And remember, very few guys will have hunted the units you are talking about since they are now taking 20 points. Take my info and go find a biologist or a guy that has hunted these units. Pick a unit and ask specific info about it. With only 8 posts in your history most guys will feel you shouldnt be asking specifics. They are right. If you want help now then you need to be willing to be on this site and offer help to others.

Good luck. Although with 20 points you wont need much.

Hello again, First i want to really thank tou for your time in this, I,mm new to this forum thing. VA said I have PTSD and have 40% dis. from bullet holes Most vets keep to themselves
and shy away from people. I worked in my own job so this helped, only simi retired cause wife got cancer witch is in remission as of now, thank God Asking for help is not east, I blue off almoust all frends and family and dont mind.
I,mm not asking for that GPS thing, would have to learn how to use it first, The more it sounds non res. getting a nice buck is going to be tough. 2600 mile round trip scouting
befor April my be a waste of time.
You do not have to thank me for my service I was DRAFTED 67 68 Thank all you fello hunters . John

LAST EDITED ON Jan-29-18 AT 11:40AM (MST)[p]Hello Aspen Adventure.... i am kind of a forum troll on a few web pages, i post on one more than others. I have to tell you this may be one of the best, most helpful responses i have ever seen. Straight up honest info, helping this guy out. YOU ROCK...

i hope John keeps us all up to date on his success. I will follow him, root for him, cheer for him when pics are posted.

Go GET a buck of your dreams buddy.

I would suggest a 3rd over 4th to enjoy the ride...9 days over 5. Don't take this wrong, but assuming your a average 70 year old you might just prefer to hunt at a more relaxed pace vs trying to hit every drainage in the unit at a whirlwind pace. 20 points will put you in a unit that will provide a great experience.

Both sets of advice previous to this are filled with great info, but I have to say, for a 70 year old WI guy, who didn't mention what caliber of buck you are looking for, I think 3rd season, giving you 4 extra days, practically doubles your chances of shooting a 180+ buck which I think anyone would be tickled with. Good luck to you!
