Wy Region G

Brian Laturner. The rest of the guys are a bunch of self righteous people if you ask me. They want their cake and eat it too.

Well said robiland. Try and find a guide that isn't part of WYOGA and go hunt. Not sure if that's even possible anymore. I would never support Jimmy Hoffa aka Sy.

DMCHUNTER - If I were booking with a region G outfitter, I'd book with SNS. There are plenty of good outfitters up there who can help you out, but I'd go with SNS. Non-typical Outfitters produces well, but I'd expect they're completely booked. A few of the other guys do well too.
But, I've never been on a guided hunt, so I can't speak from experience. I can only say SNS because I expect to be sharing my knowledge of bucks I find with them and so I at least know they'll be hunting some of the best bucks in the region.
No matter who you go with, take it upon yourself to make sure you're hunting effectively. Make sure your guide is getting you to the right spot before daylight. Hunt until dark. Nap during the day on the mountain. Try to book the opener if you can.
Give Sy at SNS a call and see what he can do for you.

Luckily Less than half the actual licensed outfitters in the state are part of WYOGA for the reasons known by many. Sy and his cronies are hated for many reasons and have ruined a lot of the respect that outfitters who are just hard working people should be given.. to the OP...i would suggest not booking with SNS and Sy, cause he and anyone associated with him are a joke. His own brother hates him.. just saying.. R&K if Tre is running it would be a solid choice.. along with Jenkins hunting camp. Your a little late in booking with a quality outfitter, but make phone calls and look around..5k outfitters also worth talking to.

Be very careful who you book with in Region G. Directly from WyOGA member Robb Wiley, in 2016 all Outfitters in Region G took 89 MD hunters and harvested 43 bucks. I would be stunned if any of them stated on their website that in 2016 they had a 48% success rate. I would highly doubt that any of them would tell you that even if you asked them. I am just grateful that Robb had the courage to post how absolutely bad the guided hunter success rates are in Region G. This was in 2016 not last year. 2016 was a great year for buck populations in Region G. 6 years of waiting and more than $5000 hunt cost is a lot of time and money to get a sub 50% success rate. Good luck!

I have hunted Region G multiple time and I would not ever consider a guide. Spend the money that you save on not using one and do a ton of scouting on your own, its not that hard to find a good buck!

If you have any experience with hunting mule deer, go rent your self a string of llamas. Save yourself a lot of money and have a good hunt built on self satisfaction.

+1 for SRRO. Their guides are hard core. Would say the 50% success with outfitters comment above is totally misleading. A better stat would be opportunity to harvest a buck. Most guys doing guided hunts aren't there to shoot average bucks. Couldn't say how many guys I've seen eat their tags because they didn't get a shot at, or had missed a 180 or 190 class buck. I've seen older guys who wouldn't get off their horses unless it was to shoot. Met one 70 plus year old guy who said he was only there to get away from the old lady and see some beautiful country. Don't think he ever pulled his rifle out of its scabbard. Shoot me a pm if you want more info...

Looks like you have some good advice. My two cents are...... I had a couple friends that live in ID use there points and hunt it last year. These guys are killers too and they struggled on this hunt. One guy killed so ithey had success. The hunt wasn't what they expected.

Seems like with all the knowledge "sharing", some guides would be cheaper than others. Something to consider

Since my son and daughter-in-law became Wyoming residents and can get tags every year, they really like to hire me as their guide. They get all of the following from their "guide", all for FREE.

1. Guide has over 30 years of experience hunting all over Region G.
2. Guide pays for all of the gas and much of the food for hunting and scouting trips.
3. Guide helps clean, quarter and pack out meat and antlers from all deer and elk killed.
4. Guide sometimes helps pack personal gear for the "dudes".
5. Guide doesn't shoot their deer out from under them because he only draws a non-resident tag for himself once every few years.
6. As an added bonus, the guide furnishes the chain saw to help cut and load firewood for the "dudes" to take home and burn all winter.

It's hard to beat all of that. It is a lot better deal than buying Founder's coordinates.
