A Little Help Please

After 64 years of playing hard and working hard I'm starting to have a few health problems.

I'll have 14 points going in to the Utah draw. Would like to go somewhere in 2018 and burn my points. My doctor says he wouldn't advise me to go on a high mountain hunt alone (bummer). Would like to find something in pretty country where I could use my Jeep to glass from and make a stalk (or hike for pictures) from there. I don't have the need to shoot a young or even a 170 class mature deer. I have a couple that score over 200. My wife will go with me and its more of a nature tour for her. I'm more interested in spending some time in pretty country with an opportunity for her to see some deer.

Was hoping I could get some advice from you guys on which unit to burn these points on and have a good time without the worries of taking a deer.

Thanks

Bookcliffs or san jaun would treat you and your wife right!

Hornkiller hit the nail on the head. Book cliffs would treat you right for what your describing.

Best of luck!

Would love to go to Book Cliffs or San Juan but by last years odds, 14 points wasn't enough to secure a tag.

Been studying the odds from 2017 and it looks like the following units may be my only possible choices:
1. North Slope, Summit
2. South Slope diamond Mountain
3. West Desert, Vernon
4. Chalk Creek/East Canyon/ Morgan-south/ Rich
5. Nine mile

I could be missing something.
Thanks

Seems to me South Slope Diamond Mt might be your best choice. I have not hunted it but takes 13 points vs 1 for North slope. So trophy potential is prob better. And has very high success rates.

venor, ergo sum (I hunt, therefore I am)

I think you could pull a books muzzy tag with 14.... that would be my first choice.

If you decided to do Vernon, get in touch with me and I can point you in the right direction and give some suggestions. I wouldn't burn my points on it, but there are a lot of deer with the possibility of stumbling into a giant.

South slope diamond mountain is the hunt you want. Much more scenic for the wife than the Vernon unit, and a much better chance at a real good buck imho. Don't waste your points on north slope, chalk creek, or nine mile. Books cliffs muzzleloader would be fun, lots of bucks but if you are looking for something over 170", I believe your odds are better on diamond. Good luck.

Scenic is the most important thing. I really want my wife to have a good time also. And what the heck, maybe a monster buck will show. My success will be measured in quality time with her, not if I shoot a buck.
Thank you

For what it is worth, Diamond Mountain has lots of private land that you can't access so if you go that route be prepared for locked gates and no hunting signs.
