I want Utahns to realize that our deer herd in a lot of areas is as good as it will ever be.
As I look at DWR numbers on the Abajo San Juan unit. 22 bucks per 100 does, population is at or close to objective. We have been higher on buck to Doe ratios for last 3 years. So I am assuming they will ask for an additional 150 permits like the last 2 years.
So basically there is no room for improvement on this unit and we have to believe that this is this units prime time until it drops down to the magical 17- bucks per 100.
I just sit in unbelief wondering how many people believe the numbers and are willing to except that this is as good as it will ever be.

Hey cant!

As I Told you many years ago!

We Have a Predator Worse than the Bears!

I Also said Buck to Doe Ratio Management SUCKS!

There are a few units out there that are indeed a lot better off now than they have been for several decades.

Get ready for change because it's going to happen!

I agree a few units are better than they were a decade or ten ago... But the question is could that unit hold even more deer???

We met with the DWR Biologist last year, in the meeting I brought up the point that I will never win the battle about the buck to doe ratio, and nor will I win the battle about how I think the numbers they throw out for population is close to being accurate.
So I said can we atleast look at changing the population objective to a higher number. He agreed we could possibly do that, or look into getting that number to change. I talked with the same biologist a month ago, he has forgotten that we discussed this, and cant recollect ever talking about it.
If we are at our objective, this unit can without any problem hold twice the amount of deer that the plan calls for.
