Well, the wife and I found out recently that we will be having a baby in August..!! Hooray..!!

I have 3 General Season Preference points and it looks like maybe I can take my family (wife and soon to be 4 kids) on a decent rifle deer hunt this year with me.

I'm thinking Pine Valley looks good..?? I've never hunted down there, never even camped down there, but my wife will appreciate some warmer October weather having a new baby, and the deer population looks good.

Anyone care to share some experience or advise if I go that way..?? Or should I look elsewhere.?? I'd appreciate some help... :)

Thanks guys.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-16-18 AT 07:05PM (MST)[p]Usually mild weather for sure and quality deer hunt for a GS unit for sure. Put in some work and you can do pretty well. Most of the hunting on PV is no secret but pm me and I can help.

With the split seasons and point creep 3 points may not be enough
I dunno. Good luck and congrats.

My friend and I hunted the muzzy tag there last year. We hunted the more southern part. Never seen so many deer in my life and they were constantly moving (migrating) we were told we were kind of early to catch the big bucks coming down since it was warm last year but if it's timed right there are some nice ones killed there. We held out all hunt and ended up shooting some meat bucks last day. Biggest buck we saw but never had a chance at was probably 150 inch 4x4 but guys I know have killed 180-200 inchers during general season. I wouldn't expect to kill that but you'll definitely see a ton of deer and have that chance.

YBO-

If 3 points doesn't get it done this year, I could live with that. I'll sit out this year and have 4 points to go in next year.

I sure hate saying "There's always next year" though... Isn't that a little hard to swallow..? We all have to though I guess.

My Buddy and I drew the tag last year. We looked at maps and spoke to others that had hunted it. We were all ready to go until both of our homes burnt down 2 weeks before the hunt in the Tubbs Fire. Hopefully, we can make it this year.

Yes, they did! I was able to turn in the tags before the season started and they were very helpful.

We weren't able to get our money back, but after all that had happened it wasn't our biggest problem ahead of us.

Dang Mikey..!! Sorry to hear that. I hope all is well with you and yours this time around. Good luck to you. Maybe I'll see you on the mountain.
