road hunting

Hell yeah, I'm damn good at it! I find the biggest, baddest roads on the mountain every time I go out...

Ya not as much as I use to i miss going road hunting with my great grandpa super fun times and memories.

Life ain't about waiting for the Strom to pass. Its about learning to hunt in the rain!

I've been hunting one specific road all my life, I've only hunted it though, I've never seen it. The road is called EASY STREET - if somebody has directions please pm me!

Heck yes! Early season in California it's too hot to hike. Later, if and when it rains, who wants to hike in the rain? A couple days a year I don't mind spot and stalk hunting.

If there is no road, we just make a new one.

Hey Camtopps weren't you looking for a job a while back. How did that end up? If you don't mind me asking.

The tag fees for roads are getting too expensive. First there is the license fee, then property tax and also tax every time I fill up the dang truck with gas! When will it end?? The common man is getting priced out of road hunting!

BTW, what is the point of the question?

Every freaking year. When I am driving to my spots during hunting season I am always looking out for the possibilities. Have seen some giants crossing the road in the middle of the day.

Having said that, it is not the way I am usually successful.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-22-18 AT 02:45PM (MST)[p]Absolutely!! Drive the roads and bugle down every canyon you come to. Cow Call too! This seems to work best if you have a general season deer tag and there is a LE elk hunt going on. haha. Sorry Bess!!

In all seriousness, I have spotted many nice animals from the road. Usually a ways away. Can't say I have every actually shot one from the road though.

Tough carrying a case of Budweiser in a backpack and keep it cold. So yes, I do road hunt.

Yeah Camtop Couple of the guys here are big into turtle hunting/poachers Mostly eelgrass and Roy. I am sure they are scoping out the turtle migration now for the big bull turtles. I know they kill em before they get to the breeding grounds where the turtle festival is held. Just a matter of time they will have pics plastered all over the internet. Rutnbuck

I have never really been a road Hunter. Usually pack into the most rugged remote areas I can find. But one time while hunting a remote area and Idaho I needed some more firewood for my camp so I got in my truck and drove a few miles down the road to cut some wood with the chainsaw. I finished right before dark and was heading back to camp and had my gun on the front seat just in case. I came around the corner and standing in the middle of the road was one of the biggest bucks I have ever seen. He was over 30 inches wide with great mass and had points all over. I slam on the brakes open the door grab the gun and jumped out all in one motion The buck took off up the hill and I took off after him and only got a couple glimpses before he disappeared in the trees. It was getting pretty dark by then so I went back to the truck and when I got to my truck it was sitting in the middle of the road with the door open still running and the headlights on I never did see that buck again.

One time my uncle was road hunting. He used the top of his car for a rest and shot twice but couldn't see where his bullets hit until he looked at the top of his car and saw two grooves and two bullet holes in the roof.

My one son that has foot problems is a real dedicated road hunter all the way.

As for myself, I get tired of road hunting in a hurry. I would a lot rather be out away from it all.

I technically did. I got out to do my business on my way home, and the buck I had been patterning in the afternoon was starring at me. I had taken my muzzle loader with me to relieve myself and shot the darn thing with my pants down, granted I wasn't right on the road. He was a nice sized buck, and it was a great day to be late for class as that is where I was heading after the morning hunt.

I did last year the first buck I have shot in over 10 years as a dedicated hunter. My boy is now old enough to pass on the smaller bucks and I wanted some good venison so I shot a young three pointer off the side of the road on day five of the Utah rifle hunt I had that buck skinned and hunger in a cooler in under an hour best meat I have ever had. I have always said I will drag or pack for meat and horns but if just for meat I am a road hunter.

Road hunted quite a bit as a young adult, not really knowing how to hunt deer. Filled plenty of tags with little bucks. I don't mind them. Those hunting the roads aren't hunting where the bigger bucks are, though some of them are sometimes bedded pretty dang close to the roads and active ATV trails.

Where I Deer and Pronghorn hunt it is open rolling sagebrush hills no trees. Road hunting is the only way to go you can cover a lot of ground fast. Its spot and shoot or drive over the next hill until you are close enough. :D

I hunted the Book Cliffs Muzzy Mule deer this year and never would of imagined the number of road hunters. I shot my deer the first day several miles from the road, and on the way out the divide road that evening I was a little scared...saw smoke flying out of several truck windows and off atv's. I actually had to stop a few times because of guys aiming out their windows.
