Howdy,

Well as I wait to see if I drew the strip (ha!), I have begun planning an OTC archery mule deer hunt in Arizona. I have never hunted Arizona or mule deer. I plan on glassing/sitting near water and was looking at unit 27. I am willing to move 10+ miles a day. Do any of you who have bow hunted Arizona have any inputs? I am starting from scratch planning this and wanted to get the opinion who have hunted on these OTC archery tags in Arizona before.

Thanks!

I don't hunt 27 and not much for the sept bow hunt.I have taken some very good bucks in Dec-Jan bow season. All have been in the western units. You can glass a good buck bed him then put a stalk on him, they are much easier to find in the winter!!!!

Jan. bow hunt is usually really good, some nice Bucks. Good luck finding water...All Forests closed due to the drought.Maybe if monsoons hit really hard in August you may have a good hunt.Good Luck dirtclod Az.

My suggestion would be to ask a more specific question closer to the hunt. Like "does tank xyz have any water? Any sign there?"

Not completely accurate. Only portions of the forest in GMU 27 is closed to all access. There are open areas with restrictions (W/O 191). But we definitely need the monsoon to hit and get some much needed relief.
