Gentlemen, my brother and I drew the October deer tag. We are in the midst of planning and research, I have all the memberships and phone applications, I've called the biologists in the Magic Valley Region office, and we are planning a scouting trip currently. We are prepared to get away from the roads and trails. Since this site is titled Monster Muleys.... I thought it would be a good forum to reach out to fellow deer hunters that might be so inclined to share some of their valuable experiences and insight on the unit. If you want to chat or drop me a line via PM, it would be greatly appreciated!

Hope everyone has a great season!

Never hunted it but hunted the units around it quite a bit. Should be a fun hunt, sometimes a slammer comes out of there. I would think on the southern border would be where I would start ;)

Hunt the back side of the ski area. It's been a long time but I want to say it's called Mount Independence? If you are able to scout and find a good buck I would hunt opening day. If you can't scout or if you can't find a good buck pre-scouting I would hunt the last week of the season.

Have hunted the unit several times, but the last time was in 1989. In those days the season went into the 2nd week of Nov. We hunted the last week.

That year my brother killed a 34" main frame( had a kicker that increased the outside measurement). Gross score as in the 210" range.

In previous years we saw, but didn't kill, several similiar bucks. Doubt the quality is as good today.

Fox, I figured that was the case... have you hunted the unit? I sent you a PM.
