Wow thats something I've never seen.It almost looks photo shopped except for the velvet growing abnormally below the hard antler.

Looking at it closer,it almost looks like two four point antlers in velvet growing on that left side. That would make one hexx of a trophy.

That is really cool. It is crazy how much different the configuration of the antlers are, last year was a tall, narrow 3 now the right antler is a 4 that lays out and the left is really funky.

Wow, would love to see more pictures of that deer. Crazy, not sure why it didn't finally drop off with the new growth. He was a small 3 as mentioned above, now his bases, even on the normal side are huge.

Absolutely amazing. Would love to see how he turns out later in the year. If he doesn't end up dropping that hardened antler from the new growth he would make one H3LL of a trophy.

Paunsaugunt..?? I'd put money on it being a Paunsaugunt buck... Seen lots of weird buck photos from down there.

I wouldn't hesitate to dump him if I had that tag. Or most any tag. :)

Begs the Question.... Would this buck qualify as a Cactus Buck for a Pauns tag holder??

Sorry, but I call "rube" on this! Unless there are more photos forthcoming, and perhaps pics from a different angle. I can't believe this is the only photo of such a unique and seemingly impossible occurence. (My two cents).

Here You Go! And these are from a different person that says they are from the DNR also.

it's gotta be a fake, the buck has alot of junk growing on top but to grow or carry a dead antler? He'd have to have two bases on that side.

An injury to a testicle can affect the testosterone in the deer, the levels of testosterone in the deer tell the deers body when its time to shed its antlers. Im not completely confident the way i explained it will be clear but im going to bet the deer either injured a testicle or lost one last year and it wo t lose its velvet this year and possibly keep the old horn, same reason you see some bucks killed late in the year that are still in velvet not bery common at all but it does happen

Its not a fake, the new growth is sprouting out around the bottom of the old antler.

Those young small crows are much more tender than the big ones. I should know, I've eaten it many many times!!!

He could still lose that unshed antler when he starts to rub or he might not rub and it will stay on under the rut, Doubt if he will be a fighter in the rut.

It's not fake, after looking at pics it looks like three bases on left side.Archery season should be a good time to find out.

It has to be a stag buck and from the looks of his other antlers

Shot a buck a few years ago that had not lost his horns for a couple of years

This is out of the Big Game Guide.

New cactus buck hunt: Starting this year,
you will be able to apply for a permit to hunt a
cactus buck on the Paunsaugunt unit. A cactus
buck is one that still has velvet covering at
least 50 percent of its antlers during the season
dates set by the Wildlife Board. You can find
those dates in the hunt table on page 44.
