Unit 44 ghost town?

Has anyone heard of any notable success this rifle season? I have gone high and low but have yet to find a shooter. Just wondering if it's worth spending every weekend or if I should just wait for weather. Thanks in advance for the advice. Now back to the hills....

I don't know the area, but will comment generally. Weather might help, but weather can't always be depended on. I find time in the field increases odds. Do you have a lot to do on the weekends this time of year better than hunting? If you've the time, hunt. You might get surprised by a monster buck or find a little draw you didn't know about. If nothing else, fresh air, sunrises, sunsets, the smell of sage and aspen. How can you go wrong?

Do you

No, but my boss sure seems to think so....

Your boss will get over it, or not but either way you'll be hunting so you're good!

I have been looking for that pig 44 guarantees but have passed on two good bucks. I just wonder if I am chasing that pot of gold. I just don't know what more to do. Especially from 3 hours away.

Looks like weather is headed that way hope you all catch some of it.

Hopefully things work out for you. As you are finding out 44 is a super tough early hunt. A lot of guys think just because they draw a 44 deer tag it will be easy. It's everything but that! Being an OTC elk unit complicates things even further with all the yahoo elk hunters. Bucks tend to figure out that once all the OTC elk hunters show up it's time to hide out in deep, dark remote areas. This often happens as soon as they shed their velvet. There is a lot of miles without many deer until they migrate into the area during the late season. Some years this may not even happen until after the 4th season. You are obviously putting things in your favor if you are willing to put in the time and boot leather. Best of luck!

Yes I am referring to the Idaho unit 44 and maybe that is why I am not understanding the mention of multiple season hunting. E.g. 1st or 4th season
