LAST EDITED ON Oct-03-18 AT 02:29PM (MST)[p]This year was tough. Both my 14 year old and 17 year old had opportunities to shoot at deer on the archery hunt but we came home unsuccessful. My 17 year old had to eat his youth anybull tag due to football. I spent 4 days with my 14 year old on the anybull hunt but we didn't get anything. It was tough as the elk were not talking. We had to spook them up out of nasty dead fall and had no shot opportunities on the elk we saw.
Well for the Muzzy hunt my boys stayed home. In camp we had my brother, my brother in law and 14 year old niece, my friend and his 15 year old, and a first time hunter in his mid forties.
Opening day was tough as there were a lot of hunters in the canyon we hunted. I saw more hunters than deer as of 2 o'clock opening morning. After a regroup and lunch, I took the first time hunter with me and we found some bucks. It's been a while for me as I've been passing deer hoping for another big one for the wall. With no success for my boys (no meat), I told myself that this year I'm getting some meat in the freezer even if it's a small deer. None of our bucks are worthy of the site name but we sure enjoyed 4 days of beautiful country, good friends, and fun hunting.
First up is my buck that I shot at 204 yards with my TC Omega. It'll make for some good back straps and plenty of jerky.
When my 3 point went down this second 3 point stood around not knowing what to do so I told the first timer to shoot. Here he is with a unique 3 point. One fork on the main beam the other fork off of the G2.
My brother couldn't make it on opening morning but showed up in camp that night as we were hanging the bucks. On the second day he saw a decent four point and added a third buck to our hanging tree.
My son shot a spike x 2 on last years muzzy hunt so my niece who is 1 month younger than him said she has to top him. She had a spike at 50 yards and passed on opening day. On day three of the hunt she got her first buck, a small 3 point at 90 yards. She meet her goal of being able to rib my son that her buck is bigger (although only slightly lol!) Here it is.
The other buck virgin (15-year-old) in camp missed two 2 points. He was discouraged as we didn't go 5 for 5 on the tags but maybe the 2 points will be decent sized for him next year on the archery. He is a stud of a kid and has a lot going for him otherwise so he'll be fine. It was a fun hunt for meat bucks.
