Any elk out of NM Unit 51 yet

Just wondering what kind of luck hunters in Unit 51 NM are having. Any big bulls yet? How about seeing lots of elk. I have a cow tag for the Oct 25 hunt and can't wait to be up in that beautiful country.

I would also like to hear about unit 51 results . I bow hunted it and got into them two toads just didnt seal the deal had 5 oppurtunitys. Send me a private message and I will share what I learned about unit 51 where I saw elk etc.. In exchange tell me a little where you hunt.
No BS about 370 inch 5x5 with no scanner though LOL.

u shouldn't have no problem find elk up there at unit 51! was there for deer hunting with a friend of my! we saw probably 3 or 4 different herd of elk!! maybe 15-20 cows in 1 groups

Howdy Vini,

I am in Texas working on my doctorate degree at Texas A&M. I grew up in El rito though and have hunted unit 51 for both deer and elk. Never have taken a shot though, seems like I am always in the wrong place at wrong time etc. I am finally starting to figure elk out and am getting some patience to sit and glass.

Question for you, What do you know about unit 37 near carizozo mountain for deer? I am hunting there this november for the first time and have only been able to scout it through topo maps.
