Hunting Party Size

My Father, myself and a friend are planning a Elk hunt for next year. We already have several people that say they are interested in going. I am curious to know opinions from everybody regarding what is a comfortable number of people to have in a hunting group. Is there a point where there are too many or not enough?

We plan on setting up camp with our 10x20 tent. We will not be hunting from horses, just good ole foot power once we get to the jumping off areas of the motorized trails. Will most likely be participating in a rifle season.

I have hunted in all size ones, as long as they aren't all hunting the same valley or ridge it should not be a problem, we had 18 in camp one year and it was a really fun camp we all had a ball.

In most cases, the more the better. We invite anybody who seems cool along with us under the condition that they do not give away our "secret area." If the area you are hunting is small with only a limited amount of space for a group to spread out and hunt effectivley, then I would try to limit the size to better fit the loctation.

Michael-

I see it the same. I think the more the better, if your spread out in two or three groups of people. And cover some canyons. We have about an average of 12-20 guys that go with us. Where we hunt, we have alot of good canyons next to each other, so we split into groups, with the number of guys that we need to hunt each canyon. But I say the more the marrier. The more lead a flyin' the more game a dyin' ;)

For me, the ideal size is 4 people or less, preferably 2. Most of the hunts I go on are backpack hunts so that may have something to do with it. I prefer to have as little impact on the game I will be hunting as possible especially when camped fairly close to them.
