Well I Got my first elk on my first elk hunt. He's not huge but he's a young 6x6 and I'm very proud of him! I had to work pretty hard to find him and even harder to get him out. I think this was the best hunt of my life! I'm still so pumped over it!!! I will post some pics once I get it all figured out.

O.K. so here's the story. The first day found us in a spot far to popular for my likeing. There was so much shooting going on I felt like I was back in Iraq in March. We saw one spike and about 30 cows that day, so me and my dad went to a small Mtn. north of our camp on Saterday the second day. We decided to climb up the mtn. thinking that maybe we could get a look around. On the way up we were hearing a clicking sound every so often we thought it might be antlers in the trees so I peeked around a tree and at the top of the hill there he stood broadside and all. I caught the gleam off the back of his antlers and took the shot. Double lung spegetti sauce, he didn't go 20 yards from where he was shot he never even saw us. The real work was getting him back down the mtn., but it was more than worth it and I can't wait to do it again!

Jeremy,
Good job on your first elk! Must have been a rush to see him standing above you. Did you have to pack him out on your back(downhill luckily)? Good luck in next year's draw.
