I'm glad I finaly drew this tag this year. This is the only tag I have ever drawn. If I would have lost those points, I would have had to go postal on someone. Well the ML-300 is a tough hunt, but a fun one. I have never heard elk so vocal. Every day we heard them screamming. Don't know why they were talkin so much, maybey the rut was screwed up this year? Anyway I found a good herd early in the morning and tried to cut them off as they headed for their bedding area, but I was too late and I was caught dead to rights in the middle of a 500 yard or so feild with no cover between us. I was able to sneak to a small hill for cover, but I couldn't get any closer than 300+ yards. The herd was moving away with every step so I had to make a decision fast. Since I have done alot of practicing at 300 yards, I felt pretty comfortable that I could make the shot. I have taken several deer at 200+ so I figured a huge elk would be fairly easy. The conditions were perfect so I waited for the closest bull to give me a good angle. A 5x4 turned broad side and that's all she wrote. Total distance to recovery was about 10 yards. When I got to the bull, I put the range finder back near the tree I shot it from and it said "353" yrds) The shot destroyed the heart and one lung. Man what a fun hunt. I'll send pic. later.
