NM credit card apps

I knew it was coming but was hoping it was only a nightmare.

This really sucks. Odds just got twice as bad, as lat year which was worse then the year before.

Thankfully they still give out so many NR tags.

Good luck to everyone you are going to need it, people are going to be applying themselves, their kids, there wife, there dog and the family car!

This phenomenon allows average people to enter more lotteries for permits. The average Joe can compete with people of means in the lottery process. The game & fish gets more money from application fee's. Young hunters get more opportunity to apply. Many would want the permits to be so expensive as to limit all but the wealthy from hunting western big game. Permits are allready very expensive. Keep the lotteries accessible to the average man and the young hunter.

I agree but I hate it - odds always get roughly two times as bad and there are applicants that are not that serious about wanting a tag that apply, and draw, sometimes the tags even go unused because the hunter never goes out! It helps me apply for my game but I still do not like it, maybe a little selfish but I hate when my sheep odds go from 200:1 to 400:1 overnight.

Ah well.

Swivelhead.....that makes no sense at all!! The 'average Joe' still pays the same or even more with interest charges over years and years of paying off his 'average Joe' tag he drew. All the credit card application does is give someone with out the real money saved up to apply the chance to screw up the odds tremendously!! Utah went to the C-card appl. and had 30% more applicants than the year before........to me that reads odds dropped 30% to the WORSE. Get a savings account and wear the pants around the house about how to spend some of the money!!

did anyone actually look and see what the difference was for odds since AZ did this? for elk and deer ?
I used to still apply for everything i wanted to hunt for in 4 states. I had a special savings account put aside for applications, and thats all it was for.

I too have the money laying around to apply for hunts in and out of state. Are we so selfish that we want our financial success to allow us more access to public permits? Don't we need hunter recruitment and opportunity for all? Many of us are getting on in our years. I've had my day in the sun (many permits) but I'm not ready to quit. Equal access to the lottery process is correct.

schmalts I have studied my odds for a limited number of units in NV, AZ & UT as they went from mail in apps to credit cards.

The odds get twice as bad roughly. However, I apply to premium units as a NR which are affected the most. Some of these were also sheep & goat tags which I am sure have more apps vs. elk since the tags are 3 times as much.

Also, odds normally get a little worse each year anyway, probably 10% more apps for the same# of tags.

Typically there are 30% more apps with this system, I am willing to bet the NR apps increase a lot more though, this is just 30% over all, a res. floating whatever there elk tag is ($50?) vs. a NR floating up to $1,000 is a big difference.

Long story short, all my elk choices got at least 50% harder to draw, most times twice as hard in UT, NV & AZ.

It will make a big difference.

Hate to see it happen. It wont be long and every state will be doing it. Arizona had a 60% increase in internet applications last year alone. It makes it too easy for places like USO to put in thousands of more people who wouldn't of applied otherwise.

Here's another thing to consider. While I was going to college I had a very opinionated antihunting teacher. He incouraged all of his students to apply for hunting permits and to burn them.

PETA has long been doing this for certain species draws in high profile areas. Imagine what they could do if their membership was told to put in for a 13B Arizona deer tag, or a Utah Antelope Island bison tag.

It's just a matter of time until they really start to use this against hunters and sound wildlife management.

We're making it too easy to put in!

Atleast we still have Wyoming (for now). Colorado is also going to a draw this year. No more second choice draws for me.

I have heard CO is going to credit cards BUT they will still charge the whole tag then refund if not drawn? Seems odd.

WY is also looking into it. I bet next year they jump in too.

Maybe I can take that money I would normally mail in and invest in some penny stocks and make enough for a landowner tag/ guided hunt on some reservation? jk
