My brother drew a Panguitch Lake Archery Elk tag this year and I wanted to see if any of you monster muleys members have had this tag before or know anyone who has. We have deer hunted this unit for several years now, and have seen some of the awsome bull's that live in this unit. We primarily hunt in the little valleys area and a bit of the haycock mtn area. I was told to go scout the duck creek area. Any advice? Thank's bruce

I live next to Panguitch lake infact your bro stole my tag I put in for. I wouldnt go up by duck creek if i was you. The big bulls are up on tippets valley and the red desert. If you want to know more email me at [email protected]

I hunt up there probably 30 days a year

Hey Bruce,

I have been hunting down South for quite a few years. I would definitely check out the Red Desert area. Have seen some excellent bulls there over the years.

Thank's Bowhuntr! I have been looking at my map all day and cannot find "red desert" could you point me in the right direction from Panguitch Lake. Thank's, bruce.

Hey Bruce,

If you are looking at a map, first find Cedar City. Head east and find the Hwy 14 and Hwy 148 intersection. If you continue on hwy 14 about 1/2 a mile to a mile past that intersection there is a turn off to your left. It forks right after you turn off and you want to stick to your right. That will take you to the red desert. That road will also go all the way through and hook up with the road that goes to Panguitch Lake. It gets a little rough in spots, so if you have a nice truck I would opt to travel it on a 4-wheeler. But that entire area from the turn off is where I have seen a lot of the nicer bulls over the years.

Hope that helps and good luck!

Thank's everyone for you're help. We will definatley check out the "Red Desert". I know horse valley pretty well, there is always a good bull or two that comes out of there. Thank's for the advice and directions. Bruce

I have hunted deer up there off and on for 20 years in the red desert & Hancock Mt area. I know the area very well and the info posted above is good. 20 years ago there were no elk up there and now I would rather have that tag than any Az elk tag. Get ahold of Doug from the archery/barber shop in Beaver. Him and his brother drew Panguich elk tags a couple years ago. After passing up numerous bulls they both "settled" on 350 bulls. Do some scouting and you will find the big bulls. Good luck. Ed F

Well I dont know who you talked to, but my friend was there when doug killed his bull, it maybe went 310, and chris blackburn didn't even kill a bull. I live in cedar and spend everyday up there and follow these elk. I know doug and his brother pretty good. I'm not being rude its just that besides this year there hasn't been a 350 bull taken with archery equipment for the last 6 years, the last was the gale bull. its a tough archery hunt, there are a million people up there calling the elk.

Here's the name of a couple of guy that can help ya, or maybe there son Reed and Lynn Thorton they own a piece of horse Valley I do believe, they spend alot of time up there chasing cows and such and are elk hunters, stop by and see them in town They might help you or they might not, I know I would be talking to them if a drew a tag for that area. Titus 360 is right about no big bulls being taken with archery, but rifle season is another story.
