Co. will post Elk drawings 06-03-04 can't wait to see what season I will be going.

Hopefully! They were a few days late on bear and mooose I think. I'm sure they would like to keep you in suspense a day longer!

I just called the div. of wildlife in Denver. The elk results are in and they will tell you if you call. I didn't draw and am up to 12 points for elk now.

Ggap,

I called the DOW today and they told me that the draw took place last friday. She also tried to look up my results for me and she told me that they werent listed in her computer yet. What number did you call and do you know who you talked to?

Horn

Horn,

I called the main DOW number at(303)297-1192. I talked to the first guy that answered the phone (can't remember his name). He asked for my cid or cc number and had me verifiy my information then he told me I didn't draw and that I now had 12 points for elk.

Sorry I'm not more help.

Just called and the girl told me they only have preference points listed, she checked and I have 0 so that means I drew my limited entry muzzleloader tag in unit 19.Can't wait!Deer tags have not been drawn yet.Good luck all.

You are right. The guy at the dow only told me points, not if I drew. Last year my brother drew Unit 10 and he told him the same thing as you, 0 points so we knew that he drew.

He drew archery elk. We had the hunt of a lifetime and he ended up shooting a nice 6x6 on the third week. We saw a lot of very nice bulls but it was hard to get close. His bull scored around 300. He double lunged him at 25 yards. I can't shoot a bow very well so I will bide my time until I can get a rifle tag.

Wouldn't help me know my preference points. I really want my first choice and put a cow tag as a second choice which is almost a sure thing as a second choice, so I could have 0 points and still not know if I drew my preferred tag (muzzy bull). Guess I will just have to wait until they have more info.

I called back today and checked on my points and I havent gained one so I must of drew my muzzy bull tag!!!!

Since a second choice doesn't use or generate any preferance points, if they say you have 0 points after the draw you have your #1 pick drawn.

LAST EDITED ON May-26-04 AT 08:28PM (MST)[p]Duh! You are right of course contender. Should have remembered that. Thanks for the refresher in how that works! I will probably call tomorrow if they don't post it.

Great hornaddiction! Hope I am as lucky. Sorry I didn't have time to call you this weekend, but will try and give you a call when we get back up there later this summer.

I called today and got the word I don't have any more points. That means I am going to hunt Elk in unit 61 early. It took 9 points. Does anybody have any knowlege of the unit they would like to share?

Thanks, Gary

We (my buddy and I) have hunted 61 off and on since '86. Last time was 5 years ago and the points have gotten so high I doubt I'll ever be there again.

Anyway, we hunted the north end of 61 from Windy Point north. 61 is a unit you mainly hunt down...the main road is Divide road and it runs along the top of the plateau. Mostly aspen and scrub oak with some pine and spruce. We found elk just about everywhere and saw some pretty large herds in the Campbell Point area and on the north facing slope at Blue Creek park.

First season might be pretty warm, but if you don't mind getting down into the canyons and on the bench that runs along the west side you should find elk. When we hunted there last, the animals weren't terribly spooked (and this was second season) and were pretty noisy in the evenings.

Good luck, you'll enjoy it if you like hunting where there aren't many hunters.

That's all pretty general, if you have any specific questions, let me know.

I have a friend who hunted an area called Cottonwood in 61 for a couple of decades. He killed a great bull there about four years ago, but he always hunted the last season. I hunted 62 once for elk around Windy Point (the other side of the road). It is on the high end of the plateau and should be good early. Be prepared for some very thick timber. It is easy to get lost. Frankly, I don't care for the Uncompaghre. It is aptly named.

I called and the guy laughed at me when I asked for my preference point status! He said "you guys are sly, everybody is doing this". He was very nice and he told me that I had received a point. I guess I didn't draw. I'm bummed. The deer draw has not been done yet so he couldn't tell me if I got that tag or not. Oh well I'll have to do some adjusting. Ed F

YA, I CALLED
i got a preferance point, so i didn't git my first pick,
BUT THATS NOT A GARANTEE,
That i pulled my second choise.
it could be that i didn't get a my second either.
but he did tell me that there was a realy good chance i got my second choise.
I aint going to hold my breath,
he did say it will be probably some time around june 4 befroe it is officialy posted.

LAST EDITED ON May-27-04 AT 11:36AM (MST)[p]Well, my brother and I both now have 0 points, so we drew our muzzy bull tags! Yeehah! May see you up there in the woods hornaddiction!

Congrats to those that drew, should be a great year here. Got my statewide muzz bull tag again going in with 0 points!

Thanks!

I would have never thought to check my draw this way. It looks as if I will be hunting unit 33 during the archery elk season. I hope I can find or at least hear some elk. I had a very poor turkey season in the Rampart Range area.

Anybody hunt unit 33 that would be willing to give some advice to a newbie?

RE: Thanks!

The guy I talked to sounded as if he has had it with people calling in to check elk preferance point status. But my result was 0 points making it my forth statewide ML Bull tag in a row. I hope everyone has good luck with their draw.

RE: Thanks!

contender,
you live right.
have a happy family,
good sex,
and many friends,
drive a good truck,
love your job,
and have a fine collection of guns,
and one of the luckest of hunters.
you must live in Colorado.
I wish i lived in Colorado.

RE: Thanks!

After I called in, my brother inlaw called and they sounded like they are getting tired of the calls. I bet next year they will not do this again. This guy said " boys from Alabama just can't wait" just like ever one else waiting on the big draw. No Moose tag, waiting on the Elk and deer tag info. Good Luck to the rest of yall on the results.

RE: Thanks!

Elkmaster: I wish your list was indeed my lifestyle. But of the few issues, I am a CO res. and I am very lucky in the draw. IMO there is no other season to hunt than the ML.

RE: Thanks!

If they do not want calls, they should post results earlier. How long could it possibly take to load the data into an already set up link? Are they hand typing it in? If the draw was done last Friday, it has been over a week.

RE: Thanks!

Dvdegeorge,
I hope you didnt use many points to draw a unit 19 tag because it can be drawn with 0 points, 1st choice(bull) and a cow can be drawn 2 choice. anyway good luck, I'll be there for archery season.
Jeff
