Arizona Tag

How long does it generally take to draw either a bow or rifle bull tag in Arizona?

It really depends on what areas you apply in. It took me 7 years to draw my first archery tag. I tried for all those years to draw the early rifle hunt as my first hunt and an archery hunt as the second choice. I did apply for all the better areas with the highest bull to cow ratio. Area 6A I believe, has allot of tags and my take less time to draw. The later hunts always have the best odds. There is cow tags to draw, but! Look at the draw odds published in the back of the Arizona Game booklet. They will help some. Best of luck and happy hunting!

I got my first deer tag in five years last year, course I was holding out for Kaibab rut hunt... worth the wait?

I got a muzzleloader elk rut hunt this year: first in five years.. but then I only put in for bull or buck hunts, and always in premium areas...

To hunt every year for any Arizona resident, it takes a willingness to go out of state, or to shoot cows and does only, and then you never accumulate prefernce points.\

good luck

Last year was my first elk hunt here in Az. First time I had put in for it, too!!

I put in for unit 1 and 27 archery bull I haven't drawn a tag yet 12 years and still waiting.

6 years applying for elk and still waiting. I put in for not the best, but better hunts, with odds of 4:1 to 10:1. I'll stick it out and see. Drew 24B late Coues deer back-to-back, and then waited 10 years for a Kaibab rut hunt this year.

Which Kaibab hunt did you get? thats a great rut. we got 12b east thanksgiving hunt last year. I did not shoot a buck, but saw perhaps 30 different bucks over the nine day hunt.

The Kaibab is really a nice hunt. I went on the east last year (tagless) but our clients shot good bucks. One typical at 210 which should be in Muley Crazy this issue. I am going to help out on the west hunt this year and cant wait to see what it looks like. As for Elk, I have applied for the past 6 years as a resident and have never drawn so AZ draws are odds hard to figure. I have havent drew elk, deer (premium units), antelope or sheep since I started applying in 1998 so start applying and maybe you will get lucky on the first try. If you dont try you will never draw........ Allen Taylor......

Actually the hunt is 12B West for the latest hunt, just off the Forest boundary. I drove down this weekend to scout out the areas and roads. Should be good if the weather comes in.

"Should be good if the weather comes in"

That hunt will be good even if the weather does not come in. It will be GREAT if the weather comes in.

congratulations on one of the best tags in the country!!

Been putting in for 7 yrs for non-resident

finally put in for a muzzleloader hunt in 23 south and pulled tthis year. Leaving next week

RE: Been putting in for 7 yrs for non-resident

I drew Late bull as a nonresident with 5 points. I'm back up to 10 trying for an archery rut hunt. Drew a 12b late deer tag back in 89 and a late 12a west deer tag in 91. nothing since. Its all up to the draw gods. really no ryme nor reason on who draws.Blank 12b late is a great tag. You will have to hunt hard to tag a wall hanger. The unit earned its rep during the glory days of Utah's Paunsaugunt. As the Pauns declined , 12b followed. It will take snow to push the Az deer off the plateau. Where is the the unit split between east and west. anybody know?
