Hunting elk in Colorado

Anyone have any suggestions for a good unit in Colorado to kill an elk? I want to hunt public land(no outfitter), don't mind taking a cow, and don't have any preference points. With that in mind, could anyone clue me in on a unit where I might have a good chance of success? After being unsuccessful the last few years, I just want to kill something, anything. Any help would be much appreciated.

There is a lot of Elk in unit 62. If you are after a cow, it is about as sure a thing as there is a CO.

Unit 11/211 have a lot of cows and a reasonable number of rag bulls. Always a lot of leftover cow tags so drawing with no points is guaranteed.

What town is that near I will get my unit map out when I get back to the office but until then where is it? Would 62 be a good bowhunt?
Thanks

I've never bow hunted it. I have a neighbor who has and they have opportunities at bulls every year. The biggest one being a 300 bull. They had a 330 on film. We have hunted it enough now that we see cows every day and bulls most days. It's just like any other unit. There is lots of good country and the elk are there.

Thanks for your suggestions. I really appreciate it. I'm sorry, I didn't thank all of you sooner but my nephew died in an accident this week and my focus has been elsewhere. Good luck to all of you in your hunts this year.

Look @ unit 4. Archery in some units take more points than a 1st season cow tag. I would look @ huntodds.com to see points to draw. I know unit 4 has had leftover cow tags after the draw for as long as you could get a second tag and the 1st season has a 50% sucess rate almost every year. Although we know the unit well, we have filled 57 of our last 59 tags since "01" about 10 of these were bull tags. If I was just getting into Colorado, I would apply for Unit 4. A bull, 1st season first choice and cow 1st season as a second choice which is guarenteed. 1 point guarentees the bull tag so you'll probably draw a cow tag but could draw a bull tag next year. I saw several hunters opening day that told me they had cow tags but only saw bulls that they could get a shot @. You can even get a second cow tag the last few years in August when the leftover tags go on sale.

Huntodds.com will tell you if you can draw 62 with no points and I know thats a good unit too.
