10,000 bugles today

Just got back from unit 76 in SW Colo and
the bulls are going full go. Been filming
in one basin and 1000 elk are running
together with about 100 bulls. Getting a bugle
every 1-2 seconds morning and evenings and
they talk all day at about 10% that rate. Only
a few are dirty. Bulls mounting cows with a
erection but no cows are allowing penetration.
I figure about 3 more days for penetration.
Filming 1 fight per day.A 340 showed 2 days
ago and never got near the herd.Then walked the
opposite direction and left over a ridge.
Very dry and still up at 12-13000 feet. Storm
may arrive late Sunday so going right back
in now and back out Sunday. Roy in Montrose

That is awesome. There is nothing like watching those big bulls work it. What are you going to do with all the video you have been filming? I would love the opportunity to watch it.

LAST EDITED ON Sep-19-04 AT 09:56AM (MST)[p]thanks for the update, but that may have been a wee bit specific. with all the talk of elk erections and lack of penetration, i think i'll skip watching the video. lol the elk in the sierra madres of southern wyoming are starting to bugle a little more, but i didn't notice if they had boners or not. when you see the term "horn porn" on this site, i dont think thats exactly what they meant.

I am only filming. I produce videos every year

storm has been just rain so far and should move
out tomorrow and will go back in. To bull###
contact me and will send a DVD from the
past few days. 10000 bugles is probally
on the low side now. They are singing by my
tent all night. Still no penetration but any
day now. Then everything goes up a notch.
