There are some elk around Mica Peak but the problem is access. Most of the land is private property and they get asked a billion times for hunting access, and the landowners have nasty stories about trespassers and vandalism etc., so it is tough to get them to say yes. If you know a landowner, you might have a good opportunity and there is a late season open in December as well that looks like fun.
