just got back from a week in unit 44 in idaho. a friend of mine had two sons who both got drawn for this great area. they weren't able to get there till the day before the season, so i went 5 days earlier and did the scoutin'. all the first pics are bulls i saw scoutin'...these were the first elk either of these young fellas had ever harvested...what a thrill...both for them, their dad, and me...hope you enjoy...

What luck to draw that tag! Looks like some fine trophy's. I love that country up there. Usually alot of nice deer in there as well. Are your boys going to mount them? Nice pic's also!

Great pictures. Congrats to you, your friend, and especially his boys! Thanks for sharing.

Congrats to both of them. A couple nice animals there. 44 is a great unit to hunt. Must have drew the early bull tags huh? Way to go.

Congrats to the hunters! Some great looking bulls. Great live elk pics too littlefoot! Some of your best stuff yet!

Great job littlefoot....great pictures as well. They're some lucky guys to have a buddy like you to help with the hunt, 5 days early too. I'll be sure to call you when I get my Nanaum tag. :) Thanks for showing.

LAST EDITED ON Sep-28-04 AT 11:57PM (MST)[p]Great stuff here. You could scout them out for me anyday. I'd watch out for that "handsome fella" in the one photo, he looks like a rustler to me.

Real nice! Great that you could scout for the boys. I've been hunting 10 years and never see nice bulls like this (unless I'm a mile away or hunting cows that year). I've tried to hunt with my 15 year old son, but we never seem to connect, even though we walk and ride horses a lot of miles. I've been fortunate to take two tender spikes.

Any tips you'd like to pass along on how to find them would be helpful. Unfortunately, I don't have time to scout ahead of time and usually hunt the sawtooth area on a general tag, though I'm not opposed to going someplace new. Just like the solitude of the back country and lack of motorized machines.

tell 'em congrats--sounds like they're lucky to have a friend like you--way to go---chris

What is more exciting, having the tag in your pocket or seeing a first timer get his 1st elk? I tell you it sure is fun helping out on a young persons 1st hunt. Congrats to the young hunters and thanks for sharing some awesome pictures.
