the smell of the majestic ponderosa pine,
being able to see your every breath in the freezing high altitude cold
the silence of the morning, only broken by the occanisal turkey, or, hopefully mature bull bugle, followed by the deafing boom of the caliber of choice. weather it be a brand new short mag, ulta mag, or any of the other new technology, or grandpas 50 year old 270 that has taken more animals in its lifetime than you as a hunter ever will.
chit chatting with over 7 combined decades of elk hunters who carry the famous names such as "Grandpa", "Dad" "Uncle Rick"and, in years to come, "Cory"(my 8 year old brother).
seeing the surprised look on my mom and grandmas face when we pull up after a weekends hunt with Elk heads in the back.
The pride of knowing that I myself have taken one of North Americas most beautiful and graceful creatures. that is what elk hunting is all about.even if there is no surprise on the faces of grandma and mom, there will still be forever a smile on my face knowing that i have spent the years of my youth with my family outdoors, enjoying every minute.

Good job Casey. And this is what George Taulman wants to take away from us with the commercialization of hunting.
