i here rumors of a big bull from area 7.
i shot a rag horn 4 sunday but wish i'd have draw my 19 tag it would have been a 7x8 with my bow so i'm jonesing to see some big wyoming bulls.
went to encampment last weekend and in 4 days i was 4 elk moseley saw none and mike saw one. it was any elk area.
i took the only elk i had a chance for.
every one post some big ones to get me threw tell next year.

LAST EDITED ON Oct-19-04 AT 06:13PM (MST)[p] Well sounds like u did good. I went to wyo last weekend. Hunted Deer. I took a nice 4x4 white tail and my son took a nice 3x4 mulie. But the kicker we hunted hard and we seen more Big Bulls on the hoof then we did Deer. Most of the elk hunters we talked to hadn't seen hide nor hair. We were hunting the Big Horn Mt's. I seen 2 taken just south and west of Buffalo that were both 350 plus bulls. Sorry I didn't have my cam on. We were sitting at the check station when they came through.

I took this one in Area 7 during archery....don't know if he's what you would consider "big". A buddy talked to a game warden and said it was a really slow opening weekend for 7. Deer and elk.

I would say thats one hellava bull gil_wy. I think most people here would have been more than happy to slap a tag on that.

Thanks....he scores about 375-380....I think he's big but alot of people on here seem to laugh unless they are 400+.....CM, I also heard of a 390 bull taken over by LaBonte during archery. Haven't heard about any giant rifle kills though.

I saw some big ones in the Rochelle Hills and the Red Hills northeast of Douglas (much to my surpise). But I had deer tags.

did you see any deer there? we went to the rochelle hills one opening weekend but didn't see anything bigger then two points.
gill wyoming do your dogs chase bears? if not there is also a big lion at six mile clear cut between black hall and hog park.
if i'd have gotten my elk sooner i would have tried to call him.
i didn't get my elk tell sunday noon so didn't get to try him.
hunters at six mile saw him three times and he has a scrape right by our camp.
the black bear tracks were bigger then my foot.

Sorry CM I don't have any dogs...but I know exactly where you're talking about....I saw a lion take a turkey this Aug. over by the Cow Creeks in 7. Very cool!!

Lots of does, but couldn't find a branch antlered buck to save our life. We hunted the extreme north end of the Rochelles, and also went down to the Red Hills and hunted the backside up against the coal mine property. Probably literally saw 100+ does with a few spikes/forkhorns. I was so frustrated. Unless the bucks are camped out on private property, I don't know where else we should have looked. I never saw a dead branch antlered deer in anybody else's camp either. Saw a few forkshorns, but that was it.

This was my first time in the area, so maybe I just wasn't looking in the right places. My gut instinct though is the big ones know to stay on private till the rut.

gil_wy that is a NICE ONE!

Great job! I here WY will go to pnts next year for elk so sooner or later I am going to get a good tag.

Did you draw a rifle tag and bowhunt or just a bow tag? I am still looking for a good unit to apply to for bow.

Hey I hunt northing wyoming near area 51, Crandal, there were some bulls but nothing big. So we decided to try Little SUnlight, and my dad and brother shot 2 six-point bulls, this was during general season, they weren't huge 6 points but nice bulls that would score around 315bc, each, we had a shot at one 340 bull but we saw him right before dark and he was gone in the morning.

DonV, you will just draw a tag. Wyoming doesn't let you "choose you weapon". Sept. is archery and Oct. is rifle (dates vary but that is basically true) There are a few archery only areas in the state (bighorns) but if you draw a tag usually you can do both.

talk to brian anderson, state forester, he has last years sheds and said 405
i dont think he will make that this year he has broken his 5th point.
i haven't heard of anything on muddy yet but would like to know if he has made it so far.

Just saw a picture of a big elk taken in Area 7. Some guy from Cheyenne. 360+ bull....Very long 4th points....Didn't say exactly where though. Just that it was on public but went through someone's locked property who gave them a key.

I heard there was a 403 taken in area 7 but cant conferm it.
it might be the one you are talking of.
i saw a guy that took a hell of a buck off muddy i'd say its probly a 185 to 195 7x9 i told him to post a picture here. didn't catch his name.
i never scouted above otter creek due to russel gordy and his privete land over there. next summer i'm going to figure out where his privete land lays.
