My Wyoming/Colorado Hunt

Spent the first 13 days of October on a great trip. Hunted for deer and antelope in Wyoming on the Thunder Basin National Grasslands. I learned what the true definition of "mud" was. We connected on our antelope (nothing big), but never did find a branch-antlered buck to fill our Region B tags with. We primarily hunted for deer in the Rochelle Hills and the Red Hills. Saw some great elk in those areas though (unexpectedly). Probably saw 20 bulls that were 4x4 or better. One really big 6x6 in the Rochelle Hills.

We headed on to Unit 12 near Sheriff Reservoir in Colorado. Great weather. My brother-in-law connected on a cow up around Pyramid Peak. Shot her down in one heck of a deep hole. Took us the better part of two days to get her hauled out. I had a fleeting chance at a very nice bull, but he made it back into timber before I could get the shot off. There was quite a bit of bugling activity occurring. Saw quite a few small bulls that had been killed, but mostly by people on horseback. The elk were really hard to get to. Deer numbers in the area looked great. One of the biggest bucks I've seen ran right through the middle of camp on Sunday afternoon.

I used a Kifaru Siwash pack and one of their tipis. Absolutely loved them both. I highly recommend them to anyone that wants to backpack hunt.

Very nice! I have hunted bunker basin a many years ago and couldnt believe what I saw in there during the archery season. I came in from the Sheriff res. side. It looks like you took that picture from Dunckley pass?. Too bad that is a draw area (i think) or I would be there more often. Thanks for the pictures. must be rough to have all that time off to go hunting! LOL! Wish I could.
