Wifes First Bull

Its not the biggest, but I couldn't have been more proud. We started of o dark thirty and hiked in about 4 miles. It finally got light, and I spotted a nice herd bull with two smaller bulls and about thirty cows. They were too far to do anything, so I figured if they got pressured they would head down this one ridge. My plan was to watch this clearcut at the end of this finger ridge. We slipped up this logging road, and I spotted a cow and a calf feeding. A spike by three stepped out broadside and I asked her if she wasnted it. She said no, my goal is a branch antlered bull. A couple more cows appeared and then I spotted horns coming down from the timber above. I said there is your bull. I got sdown on all fours so she could shoot off my back. True love by the way. The bull stayed in the brush and she couldn'tsee him. A cow was walking/feeding down the road right to us, and I knew it wouldn't be long before we were busted. I heard a bunch of crashing, and I thought we were busted. I told her I was sitting up. It was the bull tearing apart a tree. I told her to focus on the bull, and when he stepped out dump him. Again she had tropuble finding him but then I heard her say take another step, just one more step. WHAM! Of course now I need to see the doctor for the hearing impaired. One shot one kill. The woods exploded with elk running everywhere. She hit the heart and lungs. It wasn't perfect, but it was good enough. The bull ran about three hundred yards and expired. Two hours of tracking later. He bleed buckets at first, but then sealed up with fat I guess. The ground was frozen, and with thirty or forty elk running through, it wasn't the easiest job, but I wasn't going to lose this one. The picture might be a little blurred, because it took a long time to get the tears out of my eyes. I have never been happier on a kill than this one. I was so proud. Then she helped me pack it. What a lady. Of course she hates the pictures. She says they make her look huge. I said well you did have every piece of clothing that you owned on. : )

Great Hunt, tell your wife congrats. My wife will hunt whitetails with me if it is not too cold, but elk hunting is out for her. She says it's too cold.

That's sweet Bone....I'd be proud too! Did you know they made these little thingy's called....shooting sticks. LOL! :) Congratulations to both of you.

Yep, she is already making plans for next year. I want to get to Idaho to fill my tag there, but she can't see why I would want another rack. Sooooooo, I've still got a little bit of training to do. Thanks for all of the compliments. I will be sure to pass them on. We were hunting the Goose Prairie tag.

Yes I got my moose too. I'm hoping for some photos soon. My camera died on the spot, but luckily my dad had his. Unfortunately he is the type that takes three pictures a year. He probably has shots from my last moose hunt on there. I just called him again begging him to finish off the roll, so that I could get my pictures.

Congrats Doug, sorry I haven't contacted you lately, been chasing elk and such.

You better get to Idaho and get that other tag filled! I"m ready, let me know when you can go!

Thanks everybody. I am just finishing up with her antler mount. She just wanted to mount the horns, no shoulder mount. I'll get a photo on here when done to see if you like it or not. Most important that she likes it. MOST IMPORTANT! ; )
