This hunt started 32 years ago when my dad took me on my first hunting trip. I was only about 2-years old at the time, but his passion and love for the outdoors and hunting was instantly instilled in me. Tragically I lost my dad in a car accident when I was seven. Thankfully I do have an older brother who has helped guide me through some of the growing pains of learning how to hunt. He and I have been hunting together for the past twenty years and cherish every moment as we know that dad is always watching over us.

My brother and I have been hunting this area now off and on for those 20-years and have always managed to fill the freezer. This year I was lucky enough to draw a coveted either sex permit for a quality elk management area. My brother and I started planning our hunt back in August when I received notice that I had made a successful draw. Our hunting party consisted of my brother his two boys, ( who by the way are equally as diseased as I am with hunting fever) and myself. We were merely scouting the first day out when this bull strolled out of his hiding spot. My brother and I stared counting points and decided that he was at least a good 6x6. The bull then stopped, presenting me with a good broad side shot and turned his head to look us over. I noticed that he had at least on sticker on each side making him bigger than a 6x6 and that was all it took. After taking this great bull we all knew that dad was watching over us and helped us to harvest this animal. Thanks dad its good to know you are always watching over us.

Unofficially this big guy is an 8x9 and scores 343 gross and nets about 320 non typical.

WOW Nice one. Congrats. Good to see a hide off an animal in Montana, Which I see a lot of & always wondered why is the damn hide still on? 1. It cools the meat faster for better tasting.
2. It's waaay easier when they are still warm.

mtmuley,

We were really just doing some early scouting and caught this guy right on the edge of the breaks. It didn't take me long to make up my mind that he was good enough to shoot. Fortunately we could drive close enough to load him in the truck. Like I said dad was there. Hope you have just as good of luck.

crextin, Will be trying my luck again on the 22nd. Saw good bulls last trip, but the one I saw before opening day I couldn't find. He's the one I want, and I'll be after him again soon. Again, Hell of a bull you took home. mtmuley

Great bull, congrats. I too shot one, mine was on opening day in 622 6x6 with 53 in mains 25 in 4ths and 16 in 5ths, small thirds though; he went 341 5/8ths. I will post picture soon. I don't feel bad for shooting the one I did but I seen several that would have pushed 400.

Here is another pic of our hunting success. This is a better pic of the bull I shot. The two muley's belong to my brother and one of his boys. The lil whitey was small enough to use a B tag on. He is mainly a freezer filler. My brothers wife shot the whitey on the lower right and the whitey on the lower left is mine. All in all it was one of the greatest hunts I have ever been on.

Don't laugh at the lil tiny whitey. He eats well and there is a hilarious tale that goes with that one.
