ok now for the story, I wasnt there to witness this hunt, but these are my lifetime hunting partners.
I was told that during the first 2 days of the hunt, they were just seeing cows and small bulls, like every one else, got 14" of snow the night b4 the opener which moved the elk to lower grounds. on the 3rd day of the hunt they were driving to anther area when they looked up on the hill to see about 40 elk with 5 bulls about 1000 yards away. they got out started up thhe hill and when they were just 400 yards from the truck Eric decided to shoot from there, the range finder ranged 497 yards, aimed at the top of the bulls shoulder and the 300wsm sounded out. the 180 barnes triple shock found its mark tearing through the left shoulder, and exiting through the neck severing the jugular the bull dropped in his tracks,
and looking at the blood spary in another photo the bullet did pass through, but even I am a little iffy about the range, cause I know how hunters are..........LOL
