How do you think the draw odds will change next year with the fee increases and the shifting of permits, etc. I'm debating on trying for the premium tag with 10 points, but it will depend on the unit I decide to apply for. Any thoughts?

Ive been wondering myself. I'm hoping some of the people that just want to kill a bull will try the Nov. hunt. I think the premium tag will go one way or the other. I have 9 points and I think I'll stick with the rifle rut hunts.

I think the increase in the number of tags will help the odds on most units more then the fee increase and adding the new hunts. With 5% of the tags going to the premium hunt that could be a tuff tag to draw on units with only 20 to 40 permits. With 11 points I think I will still put in for regular ifle hunt and then look at the odds next year and may change then.

If everybody thinks likes us and waits to see the drawing odds next year that premium hunt might have better odds than you would think!! Time will tell

I think you will see bad draw odds for the rut hunt. With the rifle hunt getting 60% of possible tags and 35% of those tags now go to other hunts I beleive the rut hunt will get harder to draw.

I think the Premium tags will be tough to draw also. Most units only offer 20-30 rifle tags which means that the Premium hunt will only get 1 or 2 tags per unit. That means there may not be a "Bonus" tag (1 tag to bonus holder and 1 in regular draw). It will be interesting to see how it all shakes out. You guys won't have to compete with me, I drew a ML tag last year. Good luck.

Anyone hear the final word on only one?? either LE or OIL only but not appling for both?? It was shot down at every RAC so we should have it like it always has been, one species in the LE group and one species in the OIL........ anyone hear the final decision??

I don't think the fee increase will effect the draws at all. You still only have to pay the 5.00 to be in the drawing. Who in there right mind would not pay the 280.00 or 500.00 for the tag once they have drawen it. I still say that the DWR needs to charge hunters in January for the full price of the tag to get the draw adds down.

The OIL Vs LE did not pass the wildlife board, you can still put in for both in 2005.

As for me I think that I am going to go for the November hunt. I have 10 points and I think I will have a pretty good shot at drawing that later hunt. I know it will be a lot harder to kill a huge bull that late in the year, but I have the time to take the entire hunt off, and I am willing to work hard for it and I think thats what it will take that time of the year.

ARROWHNTR,

I haven't been able to keep up with all the proposals and changes this year, so I may be wrong, but according to the Utah Div. of Wildlife website, you can only apply for one OR the other in 2005. Here is what it says:

"Hunters will only be allowed to apply for one limited entry hunt or one once-in-a-lifetime hunt but not
both. Hunters may apply for a bonus point in the other category."

Just FYI...

Thanks,
Corey

Thats 'Proposed Changes' dated Oct 1 2004.

Either way, I hope ya draw your sheep tag NUNYA!!

I think the whole Premium Tag was more for increased sale value as Conservation Tags than for us the public draw hunter. 1 or 2 Prem tags per unit for draw vs almost all the Conservation Elk tags having the 'Premium' option. It don't do us a hell of a lot of good for drawing but it most probably will be great for wildlife and in the long run better for us drawing tags.

I'm sticking with the bow tag draw in the San Juan.

I do not believe the conservation tags can be used as premium tags. The conservation tags for 2005 are being issued by season archery, any weapon, or muzzleloader.
As for the odds on drawing it will be completely different this year. Many of the high end piont holders might just switch units as some of the best bulls came from units that have not been considered the top units. Plus we will have 5 different draws to choose from and a few more tags.

Can anyone tell me what the new fees($) will be for a non-resident, LE archery bull tag ? Like San Juan or Central/Manti.
