Could someone please tell me what the Utah state record Pope and Young Typical is? It might have been broken this year with the official score of 390 4/8". I might be able to post the pic's if the guy lets me but I know you will all be able to read the full story in Eastmans Bowhunting Journal in January.

Check your PM Widow Maker....Cause I still have buddies applying for that area.

I think I have the list at work. I'll check it out tommorow and let you know. I have the list for non-typical, but I can't remember if it lists typical as well. Stay tuned!

Sorry, I only have the Non-typical list, but I do have a list of the record typicals overall. I don't know if they were bow or rifle. 402 4/8 Brian Gilson, 396 7/8 Ryan Brindley, 395 4/8 Philip Tuttle, 394 2/8 Lynn Grant, 391 5/8 James Cook. Your fried will be next in line.

Does anyone know where I can get the list? Dub, I believe those were all killed with a rifle. What did your bull end up scoring and what did it rank?

The last time I heard the Utah record typical was 387 and some change.

LAST EDITED ON Nov-30-04 AT 10:58PM (MST)[p]I got the list from David Nielson in American Fork who I had score my bull. I think he just pulled the list from the P&Y record book. I'll give him a call tomorrow and see if I can find out what the typical record is. Mine ended up scoring 385 4/8 net non-typical which is the Utah State record unless someone shot a better one this year. My bull will be in the same issue next month. That will be quite something to have both bulls in the same issue.

Dub,

See what you can find out for me. My little bull, compared to yours and Kurt's bull will also be in that issue. Give me an email address and I will send a pic of a non-typ that I heard come off the Book Cliffs.

Hey Dub do you still want to see the sheds off of your bull? My buddy is living in vegas right now but he left his sheds at his house in Utah. If you still want to see them email me or call me.

There was a huge non-typical taken off the Book Cliffs by Gerald Kennecot. It green Scored 399 gross, but nets in the low 370's. I guess it has a huge 3rd on one side. Send the pic. to [email protected]

I just talked with Dave Nielsen, he says the current tyical record as of last year is 381. He didn't look it up, so he may have been confused with the non-typical, because that's what it was. He said to have Kurt give him a call, he'd love to score it 801-756-9265.

The number three P&Y non-typical elk came off the unit you and Kurt were on in 2001. That guys name was Kurt as well. His brother took a 227 buck off there this year.

Looking forward to the pic.Send me a pic. of your bull as well and see if Kurt will let you send me his pic. as well.

I do want to see them, I just haven't had a chance to get south since the hunt. I'm going south at Christmas, and I planned to give you a call then and see if I could stop by. Anything good come off from Monroe this year?

LAST EDITED ON Dec-03-04 AT 01:28PM (MST)[p]I dont no what the typical record is, but I do no for sure the Utah state record non typical is 418 3/8 gross and 412 0/8 net. That was 2 years ago shot in hobble ck. with Doyle Moss. my father in law had the state record with a 396 until christmas of that year, when they shot the state record 412 with the governers tag.

This is Lynn Grant.Congratulations on your archery bull. My bull was taken with a rifle. Thanks Dub for posting the top five list. I wasn't really sure where my bull fell as far as the state records went.

I'd love to see it, drop me an e-mail. There were a few more monsters taken this year. What year did you take yours.

Thanks Lynn

I put an arrow in the shoulder blade of that one Doyle took in Hobble Creek that year. It would have been an archery state record by far but I shot him on the last day of the archery hunt and did not get enough time to track him down. Moss and whoever he was with shot him hobbling around, barely alive, and on private property. So it honestly shold be mine. I still consider myself the Utah 'archery' non-typical bull elk record holder at 412. I was 25 years old at the time. I spotted and watched that bull all summer (without a guide) and hunted him every day of the archery hunt I had drawn for that year.

WOW!
Just amazing to see the mindset of some people.
So now it's OK to make a poor shot on an animal, as long as you draw blood, the animal should be considered yours!

Wow - just wow. So you shot a state record bull, but "did not get enough time to track him down"?!?!?
I think you make time in a situation like that, but that is just me.

There are no participation trophies in hunting and shouldn't be in most all other parts of life - either you "did" or you "didn't". In this case, you didn't.

Let's see... no I'm actually a pretty down to earth person. No I don't think the harvest is actually mine. That's just what I tell myself ;) . And yeah, I have no idea why I brought that up from nearly 20 yrs ago. Lmao ?. Yeah, I made a bad shot, only wounded him. It actually made me sick to think about such a beautiful bull limping around suffering. I was glad to see someone else harvest it same year. So, the reason why I didn't have time to track him. I finally got my shot in the late afternoon last day of the hunt. I ran out of daylight. The next morning the rifle hunt started. It wasn't that 'I' didn't have time it was that the hunt was over.

Yeah. I reread my post from early this morning. It makes me sound a little bit bitter I think which was not my intention. Lol... That's my bad. I am not bitter I promise. And it is what it is. I made a poor shot. A few inches to the left would have done it. It was about 45 yds

It hobbled around shot on private by Doyle and should be mine. You think that relationship Doyle made with the landowner was free. It probably took money constantly on the phone. Maybe an exchange of a gift of some sort. Wow this dude sounds like a non-binary ,57 gender, BLM activist, America sucks, eat the rich, my boss owes me SOB. Zero accountability for his piss poor performance in life. I’m sure he’s gunning for CEO at Spotify and threatening to quit if Joe Rogan isn’t censored. Instead he could say man I made a bad shot congrats to Doyle and company on the bull

Back when I was 12, I had the chance to kill a 348" Mule Deer. It was my first year, the largest deer I had ever seen. It was archery season, but being it was so large and only having a .22lr pistol with me, I decided to take the shot. Hit him high mid back from about 120 yards. BAM, he stumbled but then regained his footing and hobbled off. The next day, a guy put an arrow through my buck. It was obvious that the only reason he was harvested was because I wounded him. Is he on my wall? No, but he should be.
