LAST EDITED ON Dec-28-04 AT 06:15AM (MST)[p] Well I have 9 points going into the 2005 Utah draw for limited entry archery elk. Based on last years bonus points, these are the units that I could draw this year: N Cache, S Cache, 3 Corners, Dia. Mtn, Book Cliffs - Bitter, Book Cliffs - Little, 9 Mile Anthro, La Sal, Central Manti, Central Nebo, Wasatch, Fillmore Oak Creek, Mt Dutton, Fish Lake, Boulder, Paunsaugunt.

I have access to horses if needed for any of these hunts.

I do not want to wait 1 more year for Panguitch Lake or 4 plus years for some of the other units.

I hunt hard and can cover alot of ground.

Looking for a unit where I can somewhat get away from the crowds and have a good experience. Looking for something 320+ would be nice. Would like to possibly stay away from the heavy archery deer, archery cow/spike units to limit some of the pressure on the bulls.

Please email your thoughts to: [email protected]

I have waited 9 years for this, hope I do not screw it up now on drawing the wrong unit.

Thanks for your help! Alan

Stick with the units you already know how to hunt!!!

All units you mentioned have what your looking for.
Stay away from range creek very poor access.Unless your willing to pay land owner's for access.(or you really want to go horse back)My buddy drew the manti last year,he said there were archery deer hunters and archery spike-cow hunters everywhere. So you might stay away from spike hunting units.

pm me with your phone # and I'll tell you some details about range creek. My buddies who hike in there see alot of big bulls(350 pluss)
when they'er deer hunting in there.

NTHERUT,
Sent you back am email. Let me know if you got it. Thanks, Alan

P.S.....Thanks also to 338boy on above post.

I drew the Manti archery tag last year and killed a decent bull but not the pig I was after. There was an incredible amount of pressure even in the normal hell holes that in years past were not hunted by anyone but us. I saw some incredible bulls and nearly shot several in the 380 range. If I were only more patient or more aggressive!? Tremendous hunt regardless of the outcome! I agree with 338, if I had it to do over I would stick with a unit that doesn't get hunted by spike, cow hunters. It is tough enough as it is. Good luck to you. Any of the units you mentioned will produce a bull 320 plus!

Chad

IF I HAD NINE POINTS I WOULDN'T PUT IN FOR AN ARCHERY TAG. ON SOME OF THE UNITS YOU MENTIONED MUZZLELOADERS WERE GUARANTEED A TAG WITH EIGHT POINTS. HOWEVER IF ARCHERY IS WHAT YOU WANT ANY OF THESE UNITS WILL PRODUCE FOR SOMEONE WHO IS WILLING TO WORK FOR IT.

LAST EDITED ON Dec-30-04 AT 04:55PM (MST)[p]Of the units I'm familiar with, don't look at Diamond Mtn or 3 corners for a 320+ bull. There are some in the Book Cliffs though. With horses, you may want to try the Little Creek area as it is roadless and the average bull is a little older than the Bitter Creek.

KTG,

You got half of your statement correct about 320+ bulls. There were 3 bulls killed on one of those units that score over 350" inches. I have seen pictures of all 3. Each Limited entry unit will produce 320+ bulls some might produce bigger but you just have to work to kill a better caliber bull.

Are you talking about Diamond Mtn? Almost without exception, the big bulls will be on private ground up there.

SSSShhhhhh no elk in that other unit!! They all migrate into Wyo. #32 and to Colo. #201 about August 15th every year!
